I don't know why but for last few days my fingers on both my hands get numb in the middle of the night. I sleep on a airmatress I don't know if that has anything to do with it. then all the sudden last night I used my fingers to rub in foot creame from Burt's Bees'. I thought I washed it off really good, but I woke up with my fingers worse numbness then normal. I couldn't feel my fingers at all. Other nights i could kinda feel them. Useually I just put my hands in the air, you know to get the blood flowing and the numbness goes away. Last night I wasn't sure if it would go away. It took forever. I never dealt with this ever in my life. It just started 2 days ago. Help anyone! Why causes numbness would help me?

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. It happens when there is pressure on the nerves in your wrists, sometimes from repetitive motion, like typing, sometimes if you are retaining water. I had it when I was pregnant. I got a brace for my wrist that held my hand back a little to relive some of the pressure on the nerve. Also, flexing your hand can help while it is happening. If it keeps up, I would see a doctor. Sometimes, if it is so bad you can't do what you need to do, they can either give you injections, or if it is really severe, sugery.

There is only 2 things I can think of. 1. you are somehow cutting off circulation from your fingers or 2. you are having circulation problems which would mean you should see your doctor.

I don't think I am cutting off the circulation because I sleep on my back and my hands to my sides. One arm laying flat on each side of my body. I've never had circulation problems ever. I just talk to my mom who works at a hospital and she said keep a journal and get back to her later. I hope it goes away soon. I can't sleep very much. :(
got a question what about water drinking? Maybe I am not drinking enough water could that be a factor?

Not an expert, but if you feel you are not getting enough water, then drinking more would definitely help..

This could be carpal tunnel syndrome. It means the nerve that passes through your wrist is getting compressed by the ligament there.
The most important treatment is to correct what's causing it. If you're always typing on a keyboard, that could be it. Your hand should not be hyperextended upward. I suggest you get an ergonomic keyboard, which will keep your wrist in the neutral or slightly flexed position. Keep this in mind also in performing any other tasks with your hand or wrists.

Hi there. I hope by this time your problem with your fingers/hand numbness is already gone.
I am not a medical practitioner so I can't exactly give you a medical solution to your problem. I suggest you see a doctor and have your hands examined and also have some med tests done to you so you know better what is causing the numbness and what cure you can have.
My sister experienced fingers and hand numbness before. I guess its because of overworking using her hands and also it got to do with some of the nerves in her hands. She was advised to take neurobion tablets, its vitamin B1,B6, B12 supplement. She didnt experience hand/finger numbness after taking the medicines.

Dear lizzyt2007, I had the same problem in my figures. Of course I had that problem only in right hand. I used to message with Mustard oil and put hot water on the area of numbness. I was doing it for a week. It slowly gone. I feel normal now. Same thing is happening to both of my legs. My wife was telling me that that has happened due to sugar. I am using the method of oil and water for my legs. I hope I will get rid of this problem soon.

Have you been under alot of stress lately? if so it could be a form of a panic attack...panic hits in many different ways and numbness is one of the reactions. However have you dont anything to fall or bump your arm into something because it maybe something as simple as your elbow being out of place and a chiropractor could adjust it for you. Id tell you to see a dr but a dr is just going to pump you full of pills and you will never really know what is going on too bad ya didnt live closer i could snap ya back and get ya situated but since ur a ways away the only thing i can say is trial and error. Try taking time out to relax, maybe see a chiro and if that doesnt work then i guess go to the dr.

Stress you say? I get stressed out everyday I am not medicine that keeps my "ADD" under control. I try not to stress. but today is weird I feel tired, and blah. probably don't help when I go to bed I get less sleep now and I get up early or late. today I got up almost 9am and went to sleep at 1am sometime and then woke second time to have my fingers numb. I shook them last night hoping it was a bad dream. but no I couldn't feel them. I am trying to find a way to see my docter up in a town thats 2 day ferry ride. Maybe it is the stress and I should she her soon. thanks. but as far as hitting something or pulling anything no thats not it.

ive already experienced that kind of numbness but not great enough that you cant feel a thing!! it happened when i do the laundry and the ironing thing not on the same day though..and if i stressed out my hands in the computer ...what i do actually is i avoid my hands to get wet ..and before i go to bed i soak my hands in a little bit warm water and also in the morning before doing anything...and it works for me though...

I suggest you see a doctor! It could be something minor or it could be something that needs attention. Either way, it certainly cannot hurt to get it checked out, should it not pass on its on. Goodluck!
