The s.s Baychimo was a steam powered ship built in France in 1915. and sold to an Brittish fer trading company.in 1931 while returning with a full hull of fur off the canadian coat ,they became stuck in the pack ice(sea frozen around them). The winter had come early that the year.after waiting it ou a few days they were able to proceed for a further 3 hours but again thair passage closed in on them and again they become fixed in time ,stuck hard in the pack ice.The captain ordered his crew of 36 to seek refuge on the ice fearing the Baychimo would break up at any moment(the ice would crush the hull).after waiting sevral weeks 27 crew members were rescued and the rest along with the captain were to build a shelter and wait for the warmth of spring to proceed. They never expected the ship to last more tha a week!one night a fearce blizzard blew in and the crew were forced inside their make shift cabin for 3 days. When they walked out side they were struck with an awsome site of snow ridges 70feet high, and the Baychimo was no were to be seen.A search was mounted and after they did not find her and as they could see anything but snow and ice for miles they came to the conclusion that she had broken up and sunk.2 days later an loan eskymo told the captain that he had seen his ship stuck hard in the ice pack some 45 miles away.they found the vessele and after decided due to a whole above the water line in the ship hull that is was un sea worthy. So they retreived the most exspesive fers from the hull and returned to britten abandning the ship.over the next 40 years the ship floated the artic seas back and forth and aluded all salvage operations. She boarded a few times once by a group of eskymos out at sea in canoes fishing. They boarded her and a blizard rolled in trapping the 10 poor frightend eskmoes for 10 days without food or water.
She was last seen in 1969 by a group of eskymo 38 years after she was abandond, rusting ,but still uncrushed stuck once again in the pack ice.

Hi, flyerme.
After 1939, the Baychimo was seen several scores of times, mostly by Eskimos, but occasionally by white explorers, traders and fliers. Every time, she eluded whatever pursuit was possible, and over the intervening years, she has sailed, crewless and alone, many thousands of ice-girt miles.
In March 1962, a small party of Eskimos discovered her again while fishing from their kayaks. This time, she was floating serenely off a desolate strip of coastline on the Beaufort Sea.
Once again, there was no means of capturing her, so they left the desolate, rusting, but still uncrushed hulk to drift away into the unknown once more. The last recorded sighting was in 1969, 38 years after she was abandoned. Eskimos found her once more, stuck fast in the pack ice of the Beaufort Sea between icy Cape and Point Barrow.
In the early 1990's, a representative of the Hudson's Bay Company, at their headquarters in Winnipeg, said they cannot say definitely whether or not the Baychimo is still afloat. So, it seems likely that the Baychimo will sail on, a fabulous gray ghost that refuses to enter the limbo of lost ships or return to the control of man.
Happy Postings and Earnings, flyerme.
HAPPY DAPPY.
