I find this an interesting subject because, according to my observations, each person has a different response to various types of music.
What kind of music relaxes you?
What kind of music stresses you out?
Is there a specific artist/band that always seems to relax you when you listen to them?
I'm interested in how many different answers there will be to this question!

I like to listen to what they call "cool jazz" for relaxation! Also music that is associated with the ocean or the rain, it always relaxes me!
The kind of music that stresses me out , is this new music that has every 4 out of 5 words that are vulgar!I don't see where they consider that music!
Specific artists that I listen to for relaxation, are: Johnny Mathis,Marvin Gaye, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, and too many others to mention!

I hear ya! Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald are two of my favorite singers as well. I like the sounds of the ocean and the rain since I grew up on an island and those are the sounds that put me to sleep every night. My brother Sandy Simpson's music combines a lot of ocean, rain, and seabird sounds which I really like. Of course I'm a bit partial, I suppose. :)
My husband likes "cool jazz" also. I'm not much of a jazz person. I'm not sure why. I think certain types of jazz that go on and on and seem rather random-sounding have put me off. I realize it takes special talent to play and sing jazz, I just don't really enjoy it for some reason. What do you like about it?
I completely agree with your comment about vulgar language. I can do without that completely! :)

What I like about jazz, is that it allows you a certain air of freedom, that releases a persons musical creativity, and I love that, because in my soul, I have a lot of creativity that I need to share!

Interesting question. It's funny because there is one particular artist that calms me down and relaxes me, it never fails. Keith Urban. What is funny about it, to me, is that previous to discovering my love for Keith Urban's music, I didn't like or listen to county music at all. Now, country music is what mellows me out.
As far as stress... Very loud music with screaming. Headache central. Ah!

I believe Keith Urban, as well as some rock bands that cross over into country like Alabama, have helped ease people who normally never listened to country music into it. I am one of those people.
The screaming I can do without, as well. I am not much of a fan of hip hop, techno, and rap as I see them as rather substandard "musical forms." Anything that involves screaming gives me a headache, too! I hear ya!

when i need to de-stress, i can either listen to really soft music, usually with no vocals, but other times i want to hear really loud music that makes me move....it gets out the negative energy!
funny enough my 2 current favorite things to listen to are on opposite sides of the musical scale, but are somehow intertwined!
morgan doctor's cd "is this home" is soooooooooooooo chill, but i also listen to her band the cliks' cd "snakehouse". totally different genres, with the same percussionist ;)

Well if i'm angry rock music relaxes me the most but if i'm happy i think the happy dutch music relaxes me too.Sometimes when i'm in the nostalgic mood old music from the 50's relaxes me and sometimes blues or jazz.I think it depends on the occasions. But i love lots sorts of music which relaxes me.

I think cool jazz relaxes me the most. I began listening to it when
I was in my single digits. Don't ask me how long ago lol. So suppose its become a force of habit to me. My father listened to jazz and introduced me to it. Later he introduced me Mothers of Invention and than I dug Zappa.

Evry person likes music while each of them having a different likings. I mainly like rap songs and I think they make me relax a lot. But for a softer environment (specially when I read novels or work) I like R&B to listen. Linkin park is my favourite band, Eminem and 50 cent are also awesome. You know there are some songs which can really make one stress out, but it mainly depends on everyone's choice.

I love opera and I love classical. In fact, I am a Bach enthusiasts and if I hear that in church there is a danger of my falling to sleep. One of my favorites is Other Sleep in Opera, Guinse alfin un momento." They are so smooth, especially the latter when she is singing while walking very slowly. I also like some of the older popular songs and instrumental melodies.
