why do bad things happen to good people?

I just recently lost my cousin.
He died two days ago due to a busted appendix which the doctors have misdiagnosed as just diarrhea. He tried very hard to get by life. Even helped around our farm to save up for school next year. Though he was not that big, he somehow managed to ease the load for my dad, much more he was able to add a smile unto our family's faces. He did not ask much and the innocence in his face was enough to soothe my dad after a day's hard work.
He was my second cousin on my father's side. His mom had tuberculosis his dad had asthma. They were not that well off, he would have been working at the sugarcane fields if he had not asked my dad to bring him to the city. Since my dad that time needed help at the farm he consented. But only on the premise that they would share the load and still call him uncle. He was still family nonetheless and we made sure he was treated as such.
The boy was full of laughter and of innocence. He'd appreciate a pasalubong ( a gift/ something we filipinos bring home if we are from another place)no matter it just be bread or cookies. He was always friendly, respectful and reminded me of how I had been a kid before.
But as death comes like a thief in the night, we lost him. My dad recently suffered from a major stroke and he (my cousin) was left at the farm. My mom brought him food daily, and we did not notice anything different up until two days ago wherein he complained of severe stomach pain. He was brought to the hospital and was diagnosed as having infectious diarrhea, lots of tubes were plugged into his fragile body. He whimpered in pain and the next day he broke into fits, removing his tubes and crying out loud of the pain. It was only then that we knew that he had a busted appendix.
The doc apologized but it was too late he says. It would only be a matter of time before we lost him.
At that point in time, I was asking the lord on why my cousin? He was so good, so innocent, and only wanted to help his parents. He gave us joy and he was part of us. He did not do anything wrong, why then must he be the one taken away?
Most of the time, we come faced with such a question. Why is it that the corrupt government official has lived up to 80 yet someone who has been so pure was stripped off life?
It was only then that a realization dawned on me that I stopped to pray. Sometimes, things happen for a reason. My cousin was probably spared the suffering he would yet endure from poverty and from this world. What happened to him was probably not as bad as I think it is. He may be at a much more peaceful place right now and he does deserve it.
Why do bad things happen to good people? Probably because in this world, there are times when we need to see through the cash and the success. Probably it happens to them for them to be stronger, and for us to start changing our lives into something much better as well.
The innocent sometimes suffer for us to wake up and realize we, despite our ways, are still blessed. My cousin, wherever he is right now would always be one of em good people who had to suffer for us.
You? Why do you think bad things happen to good people?
Your answer may help others who went through the same stage in life too.

face it bravely,it is not your fault.in front of the Azrael, you can do nothing.Bad things always happen to good people.just you don't know.there are too many sad things in this world.we are not the prophets.so we cann't foresee the future.we don't know what will happen.the only thing we can do is face it bravely.no matter what you meet and no matter what you suffer.just face it bravly.
