Are your discussions sometimes taken the wrong way?

Are you misunderstood? Do people take you for granted? lol...only kidding!
I was just reading responses to one of my discussions and I think every one of them thought I was complaining about something when all I meant to do was ask a question. Yes, sometimes I get carried away and probably give too much information making it look like it's a big problem I'm having but most of the time it's just asking a question looking for everyone's ideas.
Do you find that there are times when people take your discussions the wrong way? Are you surprised at the answers you get to your questions some times?

I have had people assume certain things from a discussion. This has happened only a couple of times. It's still annoying. I wrote a discussion, & then someone imediately assumes that I believe in a particular issue, even though I was only stating, say, a media report.
I tend to argue back, but with some people who just go on & on, I ignore them.

I think everyone has had a time when they felt they were being mis interpreted. Have you ever been having a conversation over MSN and the whole time you thought the person you were talking with was mad at you? Sometimes its hard to make out how the person is acting or feeling when they are typing to you.

Yes! but only once really badly.. I was trying to be scientically speaking about this person with down syndrom that was bothering me, well i used a politically incorrect word by accident, just cause i didnt know any better, and i got REEEMED for it by a few people. and my star rating went A WAY down. lol. I watch what i say VERY carefully now, as people get offended WAY easy.

Yeah, it happens. It can be really hard to see the emotions behind written words and even harder for members who know English as a second language. Sometimes I have been so completely misunderstood that some of my resposes were overly critical and to be honest hurt my feelings a little that someone would read that far into it and assume bad things about me. But in the end I try to brush it off as a misunderstanding and move on.

I think this is a very common thing on mylot because it's writing and when people write they aren't always clear and/or the reader doesn't read it the way the writer meant it...plus there's that whole culture and language difference between a lot of us.
It's funny you write this because I just started a discussion and my first response was some person who just made an overly obvious statement and didn't at all answer my post. It's about whether you would want to watch a movie about yourself and I gave movie examples. This person took that example and just stated why they make movies on real life stories. Uh...hello captain obviously didn't read the post.
I don't even think sometimes, like in the case of my discussion, they didn't understand the post because I'm pretty sure I was clear, but that they don't actually read it. Maybe they read the first sentence and that's it and then post based on the first sentence which wasn't the actual point.

The only time this has happened to me was when I asked what was your favorite movie gangster and everyone except one thought I asked what was your favorite gangster movie.I usually try to make the post as clear as I can because I have friends where English is their second language and I want everyone to understand.

I have found that people generally interpret things in their own way, ctry. This fact is very evident here on myLot, LOL. Whatever you discuss has a way of taking on a whole new life by the time it passes around from responder to responder. I know this has happened to many of my discussions, and I might even be guilty of doing the same sometimes. If I decide that I have taken a discussion in the wrong way, I just add a comment apologizing for my error.

I only had one question take the wrong way. I wrote a question and provided some examples of the types of answers that could be in the realm of what I wanted. Instead of answering my question, they made comments on the examples. That surprised me because normally people understand those are just examples. Not sure they understood the question.

My discussions and answers sometimes are taken the wrong way- it's usually from people though who can't open their mind. I feel sorry for them.
But at times, I think that when you are writing or answering, stuff just comes out wrong. We are only typing on here and it's pretty hard to get true emotion across when body and facial language are absent from the equation.
