Christmas is glorious because it is the creation of a Child.
Man is not the architect of Christmas. It was built,in the first place,by a Baby and the glitter of it was simply the reflection of the light of a Baby's eyes. The kings of the earth have often taken counsel together, but they have never conceived anything so beautiful as Christmas. For a marvel so stupendous God depended upon a Child. On the day of Christ's birth God called the nations together and set"a little child..... in the midst of them..."This is the difference between the ancient world and the mordern-the one had an adult at the center, the other had a Child.

Man is pretty much the architect of every holiday, including Christmas. Regardless of the meaning, it is mankind that has decided what holidays to print on their calendars. Not to sound rude, I just know of no other way to put this, but I don't recall a single verse where Christ said "go forth and celebrate my birth." Mankind called that shot, and has been calling the shots on celebrating and gift buying ever since.
Am I saying that the birth of Christ should not be celebrated? NO. What I am saying is this: some things about the Christmas celebration traditions bother me, mainly that this celebration takes place on Winter Solstice instead of in early fall, when Christ was said to be born. Who made that decision? I'd bet it wasn't the Lord.
In a nutshell, I think mankind is pretty much the architect of each holiday, whether it is a religious holiday or not. Our Maker gave us free will, it is up to us whether or not to celebrate anything.
Good discussion, tuhpaul. Great food for thought.
