While browsing through my local news site, I came across an announcement for the upcoming annual Harlem Globetrotter's event. This show comes to our city every year for as long as I can remember. I have not attended in many years, but they did visit our school back when I was in about the 8th grade. I thought they were unbelievable! I had never seen such ball handling and showmanship in all my life. That show made me a fan for life. I don't know if any of the original members are still with the team, but they were the best. Have you ever gone to see them? What did you think of them?

I always wanted to see them, but only have seen them on tv. I am guessing to see them in person is 100 times better..:)

Oh, it is well worth it, carmelanirel! Now that I look back on my experience, I consider myself fortunate indeed to have been able to see them perform in such a small venue as our school gymnasium.

I also saw them many years ago and they were fantastic. The ball handling was exceptional. As best I can recall, they were preforming before one of the professional teams in our area so we were able to see 2 teams play for the price of one. It was great and an event I will never forget.

Gee, are those guys still around? I saw them about 25 years ago. They are amazing, to say the least. You have to admire someone that has those kind of skills. And you have to admire the lenght of time these dudes have been popular. Incredible. I wonder myself if any are originals.

They are incredible, sigma, and yes, they are still around, though pismeof has informed me that none of the original players is still active. It is amazing that they have kept the name going for so many years. They do put on a show in my city every year still.

I have never seen the Globetrotter's in person and I am so sorry. I have seen them many times on television and they are so tallented and funny. I used to like the one called curly. He could dripple the ball so close to the floor it did not look like it was moving at all. The Globetrooter's members have change through the years. I guess the older ones retired or moved on to bigger and better things. I am not a basketball fan but the Globetrotter's are much more than basketball players. It is like watching a stage show with lots of antics and laughs. They do a water bucket trick that gets the whole audience wet. I think that if you get a chance to see them in person you should do so.

I was lucky enough to see the original players over 45 years ago, sizzle, and I wouldn't trade anything for that experience. There has never been anything quite like the Harlem Globetrotters!

Oh, jr89997, you should see them perform. I think everyone should see them at least once in their lifetime.

i seen the gloabtrotters when i was a child it is the only basketball game ive ever seen in person. the reason i rember(i was really young )is because one of the gloagtrotters hid the ball under his shirt and i started telling my grandmother very loudly "that man is cheating gram the ball is under his shirt" there were quite a few chuckles in the group of people around us . my gram just laughed and said its ok because they were allowed to do that

LOL! They really had some sneaky moves, yyelisha, and they always made the referee so frustrated.

I have never seen them but I use to like to watch them when I was little on tv I thought they were really neat to watch. That is really cool how they came to your school that had to have been a lot of fun seeing them play.

Their coming to my school, Shaun, stands out as one of the highlights of my life. If only I had transportation I would go and see them this year.

They used to be a favorite of mine as I grew up. My father loved them and would take us to see them when they came to our small town every other year or so...they were great and were the first experiences that interested me in basketball. I believe I was 10 the first year I saw them..One of my all time favorites was "Meadowlark Lemon"..he played with them for about 20 years...he was amazing as were they all...thanks for pulling up that great memory for me, Worldwise1...I think they are still around and if memory serves me at all, I recently read that they have performed for over 80 years!!!!

They really do engender great memories, rx4life. "Meadowlark" Lemon(I thought that was the funniest name, LOL), stood out as their leader, but, like you said, they were all great!

They are awesome! we went to see them last year at the Verizon center here in DC - I also remember seeing them in New Zealand once when they were touring there - unbelievable ball skills each of them had. It was fun and well worth the money spent.

I have seen the "GlobeTrotters"on numerous occasions, anyone with an admiration for both athletic skill and comedy cannot help but enjoy their performances.
It is really a great night out for the kids.
As far as original members go no, they have long been retired fromplaying the events but I do beleive a few have stayed around to train the new recruits as they come up.

I think that's great, pismeof. A friend of mine used to take his son to see them every year when he was growing up. They do have a great comedic routine.
