How often do you wear your clothes?

I read in a magazine that you wear 20% of your clothes, 80% of the time. Think about that one. Can you relate to that? The article said to hang your clothes with the hanger backwards. and as you take them out and wear them and hang them back up, hang them with the hanger correctly. After 3 months, look and see what you have turned which way. Are you wearing your clothes? Good program to de-clutter your closet and stop buying clothes you don't wear and save that money! What say you?

Hi,there! Well,it depends on the seasons. If it's summer time,I just change my clothes every day.But now it's winter,so I wear the clothes for two or three days before I change to another one.I usually make full use of my clothes though I also have some clothes that I have no time to wear.Luckily I'm not a crazy shopper and don't buy clothes that often. Thanks for the discussion and I think I'll pay attention to this in the future.Have a nice weekend^_^

I guess I wear 10% of my clothes 90% of the time, if that.
I have certain clothes that I have to wear to work pants and shirt, and I wear them most days. I have TONS and TONS of clothes but only wear a minimal amount on a daily basis.
We have been going trough some clothes and weeding some out, but I still have too many.
I tried turning our hangers backwards before. After 3 months we got rid of about half of the ones still backwards. The other half were seasonal or special occasion, so we kept them.

I can say I'm one of those people that fall into that wear the 20% of my clothes category.
The one reason I didn't get rid of the clothes that I didn't wear cause they were business attire and just cause I'm not working in the business field right now doesn't mean that I won't in the near future.
Plus, you can only wear your church clothes on sunday. I probably have enough church clothes to wear a different outfit each sunday for 3 months. I would have to get rid of a lot of my good clothes if I took this articles advice. Now I could do this with my everyday clothes.

That's a good idea, but I'd probably forget what I had hung what way in the first place. lol. Instead, I usually go through clothes as I pack for fall/winter and spring/summer, if I didn't wear it in a year, it goes to charity. And I can believe that article, I mean I have 3 pairs of jeans I wear all the time, and a couple more I wear every once in a while, same with slacks, I have a few pair of dress slacks but rarely wear them. But since I can't stand a whole lot of clutter, it's pretty easy for me to sort through and get rid of things I don't wear or don't like any longer.

That 80:20 sounds just about right. We are finally to the point in retirement where it makes more sense just to stock a few comfortable clothes and have a happy closet than to have every possibly someday might-be-needed outfit on hand. I should get rid of all dresses, and just buy one if we ever have to go someplace fancy. I already threw out all the so-called "dress" shoes.
I would never hang the clothes backwards just to find out how often they had been worn. That is too much like work! I just put the stuff I wear regularly on the left side and the less-used stuff on the right. Since it is more automatic for me to reach into the right side, this forces me to think a second before grabbing. Usually I end up choosing something from the left though. Comfort rules!

Yeah, if you aren't out much or working, who needs a bunch of clothes? My hardest part was parting with my shoes... that was hard! But I have a knee injury that wont allow me to wear the high heels, and I have kept them for 5 years and not worn them so.......

I can totally relate to that. I have a ton of clothes and I keep wearing the same things all the time. This year I definitely cutting down. I have enough clothes to last two lifetimes. I said I would not buy any clothes this year. I pretty much stuck to that vow. I only bought a pair of jeans and maybe two shirts and a paid of shorts.
I've spent the last two days cleaning out my closets and have a bag of clothes sitting on my floor right now waiting to go to a shelter. I'm not buying any more clothes next year as well(hope I can stick to that) except for underwear and shoes. I used to shop a lot and love to bargain hunt. I don't have as much money as I used to have and I don't like shopping as much as I used to.

I'm thinking 7 should be the magic number. 7 pairs of pants, 7 shirts (casual& dressy) 7 pairs of shoes, 7 dressy outfits. I have 100x that. Sometimes it's really hard to throw things out. Even clothes can have attached memories. I'm trying to just think it's just stuff and stuff isn't so important but it's still hard sometimes.

well bout me. I hang my clothes and what clothes comes first is the one am goin to wear everytime I go out. To make it fair for my clothes to make sure also that I really uses them. What's the reason for buying it wherein you're not goin to use it.
