Does Labor Hurt THAT Bad?

I've heard many stories. My mother said that was the worst pain she's ever felt. But I was with a friend who had recently had a baby, and she said not to let older moms scare me. I assume she said that because we have stronger drugs in larger amounts now, but I'm not sure. Do any recent mothers have a say on the pain level throughout the entire pregnancy, and specifically the birth?

of course that really hurts but that is safer than a cesarean birth 'cos you will be save from doctor's malpractice... :-)

It probably depends on each woman to how much it affects them. I had a stillborn baby girl in 2005 and throughout that pregnancy i mainly had back pain and stumache ache. When i had her the pain wasn't that bad apart from being sore and stinging alot. Throughout the pregnancy with my son i had bad back pain and stumache ache but was out of breathe alot more often than with my stillborn daughter. When i had my son the pain started about 30 minutes before he was born, but it was alot than before. I managed through it with just a pain relief tens machine and i could still feel the soreness and stinging aswell as my back pain was more intence. I think it depends on how big the baby is to how much pain you get aswell. In my opinion labour isn't as painful as most people say it is, but oviously its different for each woman. Even if theres alot of pain, its worth it because at the end of it all you get a baby that will love you forever. ~Joeys wife
