Who does the decorating at your house?

Tonight as I was lugging our tree out of it's box and putting the thing together, I remember when I was younger and I actually had help decorating. The whole family would get involved. We'd make a day out of putting up the tree, and even cleaning the house so we could be ready for the holiday season. However, as I've gotten older, I'm left alone a lot when it comes to decorating. The tree has become my responsibility, so I have no help. There are some things that I don't have to do though, which is putting candles up in our windows and decorating the windows. The tree, wall decorations and other small things are now all up to me. If I don't do it, we'd have a pretty bare Christmas. So, this got me curious, do you have help decorating? Or do you generally shy away from the decorating and let someone else do it? Is the family decorating for the holiday season a tradition, or just sort of something you do?

My husband and I both share the task of decorating. He does however assume the responsibility of bringing the tree in from the shed and setting it up. He also puts on the lights and the garland. I hate putting the garland on.

Our Christmas Tree 2007 - Our Christmas Tree for 2007. It's an artificial tree decorated with silver and gold ornaments, white lights and opalescent beaded garland.
Truthfully, I don't think that there would be a tree in my house at all if I didn't put it up. I have always really gotten into Christmas and want to decorate as soon as possible. When I was younger, I deferred to my Mother about when to do all that, but now I do as I like and put it up the day after Thanksgiving. I then take the week or so after I put up the tree and decorate around the house. I enjoy it quite a bit though. This year, my fiance helped me with everything, which was a nice change. He decorated nearly the entire tree, after I put on the pearls! lol.... he just couldn't get them on there right! I think I have a pic that I can share of our tree getting put up... We have grand plans for next year, after we move. We've been talking about doing outdoor decorations and building a number of things ourselves, which I'm really looking forward to. I think it makes the holiday so much more special if everyone gets into decorating and celebrating. After all, isn't that what the holiday is all about anyway...family?

IF there is any decorating done, I do it, so things are pretty bare around here.

Even though I live 2 hours drive away from my parents house and have done for 6 years now, I still visit home on the first weekend of December every year, to help put up the decorations. My oldest friend that still lives in my hometown comes over and decorates our home with us as she has done every year for about 12 years. It's a tradition and it wouldn't be right without it. I still get so excited when the boxes come down from the attic and I dig out all of my old favourite decorations that I refuse to let my mum throw away no matter how old they are! They're pieces of my childhood! I suppose I'm very nostalgic, but it's a lovely time of year and I want to do it for as long as I can.

I guess since I was always the "artistic" one in the family I've always done the decorating, or maybe it was just a good excuse of my mother's so she didn't have to do it--she always was a bit lazy about thing like that...LOL Now that I'm on my own naturally I have to do all the decorating..I don't mind though. Sure wish I could get my kitties to help, but they just seem to be content snoozing while their crazy mom runs around like a lunatic decorating all over the place..heehee

We don’t celebrate the Christmas festival so we don’t decorate our house with Christmas tree. Anyhow I like the merry Christmas season and always share the joy of the grand festive gathering at my Christian friend’ house. Chinese New Year is drawing near. It is a grandest festival of the year for Chinese people here. It is our regular custom to hang the red lanterns in front of the house to boost up the atmosphere of this grand festive season. The installation of lanterns is normally done by my hubby. It needs much labors but he is willing to do it every year one or two weeks before the New Year eve.

Actually the bulk of things is up to me. But I do get help from that kids when it comes to decorating the tree they get a kick out of that. I try to make it a family tradition. But must of my help comes when I go outside to decorate the house. But I can say over it is a family thing.

Well, the past 2 Christmas' my oldest daughter happened to be here around Thanksgiving and helped me decorate outside. As for the tree, my s/o and I go together to pick out the tree, a real one, and he gets it cut and put in the stand when we get home, and brings it in. He gets it put where I want and then I do the decorating. I also do all the interior decorating. Which I really don't mind, because I always end up buying some new decorations after Christmas, and by the next year I have forgotten what I bought. So each year, it's like finding pre-Christmas surprises.

i do the decorating at my home. partially because i am the one who likes decorating. partly because i feel that the women usually has better taste when it comes to doing up the home. Recently i just bought a plant for my home. I have put it in the corridor of my apartment. i get my husband to help with the menial aspects and sometimes ask for his opinion on the decorations. he is usually happy to help but leaves the final decisions on decor to me.

Eversince I was 11 I think the decorating of the house was left to me. Up to now I still do the decorating. They would buy things but they would not put it up. They always rely it on me. Sometimes I got lazy but thing is they keep telling me to put it up. Would have been easier and fun if they helped :(

Hi The family getting together to decorate the house and tree is a huge tradition in our family. Each year we all come together to help put everything up and we have alot of fun being together and doing it. My Brothers Help do the heavy lifting and decorating the outside and me my mom and sisters do the smaller decorating indoors and make it homey. Blessings Maemae

Since i'm doing a study on interior design i started to help to decorate the house at home together with my parents. I also decorate a shop every week together with the shopowner which is so much fun to do. When i was young i never decorated because i wasn't interested in it.When i got older decorating things stole my heart. So when i finish my study i will be able to decorate homes.
