Are you in a place where you have been stricken by the recent winter storms here in the U.S.? If so, how has it affected you? I'm fortunate to live in the south, where it's been unseasonably mild (so far) but we're suffering from a pretty bad drought. How has this impacted your life? This entire year has been the strangest weather year I can remember.

The winter storms so far have only made plans change, lol. My daughter came up from Virginia Wednesday, and was going to stay til tomorrow. However, we had sleet and freezing rain yesterday, and it's supposed to be turning bad tomorrow afternoon/evening, so we decided it would be best for her to go back today. She was bringing her dog for us to dogsit while they go to Texas next week thru Christmas. And my s/o picked up his daughter this evening for the weekend, however, that will be cut short, he will be taking her Christmas shopping tomorrow and then dropping her off at home, since driving over the mountain Sunday is not a good option. Since I'm originally from Texas, I don't do snow driving lol, so I try to get any errands done or shopping the day before there is to be any winter weather.

I have heard about the drought in the southern states. My brother lives in souther Georgia.
We had an ice storm last week, but nothing like the poor midwest. They got hit so bad. I am glad that I do not live there anymore.
We are just starting our snowstorm. We are expecting up to 12 inches of snow. We are supposed to have blizzard like conditions tomorrow. Really heavy snow, with a lot of wind. I live in northwest Ohio.

I noticed that the National Weather Service predicts that overall we will have unseasonably warm weather this winter, in Kansas. On the other hand, there are people all over central Kansas with no power, due to ice storms. We missed two days of school. We canceled activities for my adult mentally handicapped clients. They were just beginning to get things cleared up, and BAM we have six or more inches of snow. Tomorrow it is supposed to reach 40, though. I am fortunate, I did not have a lot of tree damage (lost one last year) and my power has remained on. It looks awful when I drive around town.

Well the recent ice storms that hit the midwest hit us, but luckily it really wasn't as bad for us as it was for other section of the midwest. We did lose power twice of the last couple of weeks, each time for about six hours. Right now there is about three inches of ice on my driveway. I am slowly chipping it off. As I am typing this right now it is snowing and they are calling for up to 5 inches of snow. Of course that means we will only get about 1 or 2... you know how the weathermen are.

We are having many summer storms in Sydney.
One did cause 200 million dollars damages last week.
Drought? I know about those.
We are coming out of a six year drought in Australia.
In Australia we get some decent rain once every 7 years... and it seem that this summer is the year for rain. We better stock up on it... because we won't see it again until 2014.

I do not live in the States, but the other day at Tim Hortons, we were talking to a couple who had family in Vancouver, B.C and that is north of Washington States, so the weather there is about the same, and they told us that in Vancouver, they are starting to get more snow, and it is almost like it is here in Manitoba, only wetter and not as cold. I know that in North Dakota and Minnesota, according to the weather reports they are getting quite a few storms so I rather expect it. We are having strange weather. Here it is colder than usual. I went outside yesterday and it almost felt like January.

I am not in the middle of any winter storms as of yet. We had a small storm last week but it was not enough to close places down or cause harm. We are going to miss this big noreaster that is about to hit the Northeast. It is passing by the midatlantic states so we were very close to having this huge storm. I am sure we will get at least one big storm this winter. I agree that this year has been very strange weather wise. I hope you get lots of rain soon to help with your drought problem.

The winter weather hasn't affected me much. I've been inside most of the time, it's just been a slushy mess while I've been at school. Other than that, not large impact. This weekend it's going to be frustrating though because my mother wanted to go out shopping Sunday, on her birthday, to get done for Xmas and what not, but since we're getting the storm, that won't happen. It's just going to make for a long weekend.
