To all parents,Did you ever came across the term 'Growing pains'. Did your child had sleepless nights due to leg pains??
My son is 3 years old and since few months he is having severe leg pain and he gets up crying at midnight. Then I apply some balm and give him massage and also put hot pads. Then he falls sleep again. Poor kid. He cannot bear the pain and he asks me to massage his legs. I feel so bad for him. I searched the net and found that the pain is called 'Growing pains' which happens to some kids in growing stage.
Please share your experience with me. Anyways I am taking him to a doctor soon.
Take care of your kids.

I have heard of this, my friends daughter was crying and she was rubbing and massaging her legs until she relaxed and went back to sleep, she was about 4 at the time. i dont think there is much else you can do, just follow doctors advice.

Thanks for your input.
I showed him to a doctor. Doc said that this is due to lack of calcium and advised me to give calcium syrup. I have started today. Hope it helps.

My daughter has them- they started at about 3 if I remember right. She is very tall for her age- she is 6 now and still has them though I don't have to massage anymore- they are less frequent and if they wake her up I give her some Tylenol. But talk to your doctor- potassium deficiency can cause this pain if it's crampy like, and so the doctor would tell you to get him to eat a banana.
I'm sure it's nothing to worry about and your doc will explain-
It's normal for taller kids I think- Hang in there

Wow calcium syrup- that's not widely prescribed but should be good! :) Hope your little princess feels better- tell her it gets better as she gets a little older and to hang in there! :)
Have a great holiday!

Hi,
My son is very choosy about anything is fed to him. He will say it taste's different and so I don't want :)
I am trying my best to give him the calcium in different ways. Hope I get success.

I'm not a parent, but I HAD growing pains as a child. In my legs and ankles. They were excrutiating. All my mom was told to do is to give me tylenol, and have me stretch my legs often during the day. I hope someone has come up with a better solution. Most doctors have the attitude that it is only a short term thing, so they don't extend much help with the problem. I hope something can be done. I was 6 and then 10 when I had growing pains. Being three has to be horrible.

Yes, even the doctor says that it is a short term thing. But, still when the pain comes, it is difficult for him. you are right that the age 3 is very difficult. As a matter of fact, any age is difficult. But, at age 3, children are more curious and want to experiment with things and are more active. All this leads to some discomfort in the form of pains etc.
Take care.

When my son was little he'd be on the go all day long and at bedtime his poor little legs would cramp because they were still moving at full speed even though he wasn't.
The only thing that helped was for him to move his legs until they were better. Painful for him, but the only thing that worked.

He's sixteen and besides being a pain in the butt, he's fine. LOL
