Lakota, when I lost my sound, it was final signal for me that I have bad virus in my computer. I am afraid that something is going on around and we all are having problems.
I reinstalled all programs in my computer and is working fine now, but it was one of the problems I was having.
Is your computer running slow?

My assessment would be the sound card. Probably, the sound card is not working properly anymore, though it may look fine on your monitor.
I advised that you bring your computer in the nearest PC shop for proper diagnosis and assessment of your machine.
I am quite confident that the sound card was having some problem here. Perhaps, sound card replacement may solve your problem if I am not mistaken. :-)

I noticed that you posted this 8 hours ago so I hope you got an answer by now but if not...This happened to me sometime ago and I ended up using live help on windows. They said to make sure that your default browser was really set that way. Some how mine got changed by something I downloaded. So If you have IE then make sure IE is your default.
Good Luck,
