i want to buy a good laptop, i dont have that much money but if i save my money the most i'd want to spend on a laptop would be maybe 600 dollars. but then again, i look at laptops around that range and i see acer is cheap, but is it really good? is hp good? i've had hp before and i had some problems with it before, what do you think is the best brand and which one is better intel or amd?

Many manufacturers make different grades of machine and the quality will vary between them. I would avoid machines that are not genuine Intel and I would also avoid Dell.
HP make very good 'business' machines and I would suggest you consider a good recent second hand machine if you can find one. Most new machines now, come with Vista, which is horrible, stick with XP pro if you can

I've used both Vista and XP on the same machines and running XP the machine runs better and faster. Vista is rubbish. It doesn't even take advantage of dual core yet, that is planned to be added in the service pack. Steer well clear of Vista till they have perfected it. Vista adds no significant functional improvement over XP.

Well, I find machines with AMD don't run as reliably. I think it is a really bad idea to build it online. It is mostly about how the components work together.

What is the difference between the intel and the AMD, the AMD seems to be cheaper, if i try to build and customize a laptop online.

I haven't bought a laptop yet, but with computer products I usually go with Dell or Sony just because I know its good quality. You're best bet it to research online. I know they design laptops for different purposes, like primarily for gaming, primarily for school, etc. I'd be careful about buying the cheapest out there because a lot of times you get what you pay for.

I saw something in the news that a dell laptop exploded at a business meeting. I'm looking at this Acer for 469 in circuit city but I'm not sure about it because I'm not familiar with that brand. I'm scared of getting what I pay for.

Well I've looked at that one too and I really liked it. It was very nice and CHEAP. That's what I'm scared of.

I think you should choose what you need not what you want. Also some laptops are famous and have many excellent functions ,but actually we didn't use these functions. So you'd better consult some professional persons and decide what to do next.Sure ,if you have enough money ,buy what you want:)
