The dog I have currently doesn't run or attack the vacuum. The first couple times he heard me use it, he did bark. But was just short term. I had a dog 10 years ago who would stalk the vacuum. He was always just around the corner waiting to 'pounce.'

Got two dogs, one tends to attack, the other runs and hides. But the one usually listens when I tell him "off" and he will then go do something else.

My dogs just leave the room. They do not like the noise. I am sure that to their much more sensitive ears that they can hear all sorts of other levels and layers to the noise so it probably sounds different than the low "whirrrr" we hear. They are not really "afraid", they just don't like it.

My dog is a bit afraid of it but he's so curious that he still has to follow me around everywhere I go with it. Whenever it gets too close to him he'll run away from it but just moments after he's right there again checking out what it does. He doesn't bark at it or attack it anymore, he tried a few times and after correcting it then he hasn't tried that again.
