Ok my friends and i often try to slove the problems of the world, and occassionally baffle ourselves with our unanswerable questions.
so here it is...
If a baby is born blind can they see pictures in there dreams?
I know that babies inside the womb have rapid eye movement and that means they are dreaming, but what could a blind baby see in their dreams if they have never seen even colours before, are their dreams black ?

There is probably no way of knowing the whole answer to that, but I can give you an idea to play around with. I am dyslexic and I cannot picture anything in my mind. No pictures at all. However, I do dream. I see no pictures, no colors, no light, no words. So I am like that blind baby in a way. I imagine that the baby dreams just not the way you do. And the dreams are not black. Black is just the absence of light. It has nothing to do with dreams. Dreams are prompted by stimulation and as you said babies in the womb dream in rem sleep and they cannot see yet.

wow thanks heaps for replying, you kind of made me feel bad... i didn't mean any offence, we come up with heaps of these questions and my best friend really does her head in over them this was one of her best, i cant believe the first response kind of answered me.

I did not mean to make you feel bad and I did not take any offence. I think I did answer your question though.
When my Father found out that I could not picture things in my head, (I was almost an adult by then) he admitted that he could not do it either. We spent one whole summer trying. We had some interesting results. Kind of like Picaso, but they were so short lived and required constant effort. We both decided that we were unique,cool,and OK, and quit. We both were ambidextrous (Dad has passed)he favored his left and I favored my right though we could do everything with either hand. We both had many artistic abilities inspite of not being able to hold a picture in our heads.
Life sometimes is too short to wonder why. You just go with it and enjoy. Your brainteasers are a form of enjoyment--go with it!

wow what a question!
i like to believe that babies come from heaven...
i believe our dreams are closely linked to heaven and the spiritual world...and so that would mean that all babies until they are born they dream of heaven in all its glory...
many people do not remember their dreams at all - so it is up to speculation only...but i would believe it is the same for all people - dreams based on experiences in life (so for a blind person maybe other senses such as smell or auditory or what they might imagine seeing to be like) and dreams of heaven, which are usually not remembered in waking life by anyone...
so...is that too crazy for you??

you could never be to crazy for me, you read my question right! LOL i think its interesting to ask questions that people keep pondering on. I like to answer the unanswerable and i think everyone opinion counts. I am trying to imagine how you dream with no pictures and no life experience, i like your idea of the other senses, smell and touch..... but that makes me wonder what the nightmares would be like if you could smell and feel them... it is creepy!

yes it is fun to answer the unknown...i actually have had a lot of dreams where i can taste and smell and almost all of us hear in them, we just take it for granted...i don't think it would be more or less terrifying if it is what you are used to.

i have been asking that to myself for quite some time now. but the answer should come from blind babies... we better ask them so our question will be answered.
