it would do good to prepare your upper body well!!! this is to try and minimise shoulder injury which is one of the most common injuries in rugby. I'd also recommend squating for stronger knees so you can side step like Robinson of England!!!
Good luck on your rugby playing career andI hopeu enjoy it.....

With rugby being a contact sport it is quite difficult to train on your own. The running you are doing will be helping with your fitness but you may need to also try starting with some interval training.
Basically this involves you doing your warm up then running at half speed for 20 seconds (about 200 - 300 meters) then sprinting as fast as you can for 10 seconds. This is repeated for six intervals and then rest for 1 minute and repeat three more times, this training will gear you up for the stop /start motion of the game, allowing your muscles to adjust.
Another simple exercise is to start by lying on the floor, do 2 push ups and sprint for 10 metres, back to the floor for two push ups and sprint again. Do this for the length of the pitch. Repeat twice more.
This exercise prepares you for all the time you will be on the floor and pressing off to chase the attacker or get back into position.
Hope these two little tips help you, good luck with your season.
