Strange Habits

Does anyone have any strange habits? I personally have this tendency to pick at and fidget with my scabs, aches, or pains. For example, if I have a cut, I will poke and pry at it. Yes, it hurts it and yes it will probably cause it further irritation, but I can't seem to stop myself. I don't know why I do this, it's almost as if I'm intrigued. Same goes for a swollen ankle or something of that sort, I will further irritate it out of interest. I know, it's quite bazaar, but it's not a self destructive or malicious thing, it's just my instinct. I don't even realize I am doing it until someone calls me out on it. Do you have any habits that are seemingly strange?

I have a very similar thing that I do when my legs are bothering me, from arthritis I think. I will lightly pound on the muscles but only because it seems to help. People ask me why do I do that and doesn't it make it hurt more, but it seems to be therapeutic.

I agree. As far as sore muscles and joint paint is concerned, it definitely can be therapeutic. As far as my scab issue, I don't think it is beneficial.

My sister does the scab thing too. She has since she was a child, and we've all mentioned that before, but no one noticed when she started to do it. I guess my strange habit is popping my hips. Since a car accident 8 years ago, I only have to turn and maneuver in a small way and one hip will pop, and then another. I do it because if I don't it gets painful. But it drives my family nuts because they can't stand the sound of it.

I understand what you mean. I don't have to do it all the time, but on occasion, my joints get stuck, and I'll have to pop them out to relieve the issue. I'm sorry your family cannot stand the sound. I certainly hope they realize it's beneficial to you and don't give you a hard time about it! Thanks for the response : )

I think I have one worth mentioning! I have this thing about cutting my nails to the point that the corners bleed. I won't stop until I still see white-colored parts of my nails, leaving only the clear parts. I dig the corners so deep, til I won't feel any in-grown nail, or thinckened skin. What's worst, (pardon to those having dinner), is I get curious, so I take a whiff with the smell of the trimmings I get from my toenails. Am I sick or what?

I get a high when the crust is almost dry and when you peel it gives more itchy feelings, that's the time I give it the works, scratch scratch scratch. Oops now what's this oozing out? Damn who cares it was good while it lasted.

I wriggle my legs when I am sitting down and I pick at my fingernails. I also scratch the pores of my nose. I have oily skin. Oh about your scabs. Have you considered that you might be allergic to some product you use or something in your house? I think you should get it checked out. You seem to have dry skin. Maybe you should try a moistener.

Ha ha this is a good one....ok my husband has a habit of chewing, nothing is in his mouth,he is not old but he will chew, don't ask me why....I always tell him"quit chewing" He also cannot leave a scab alone until he has it bleeding....My brother can see someone eating and he can be across the room from them,he will see them and all of a sudden you will see him open his mouth..(thats funny)Now i know another person that when he is eating something he really likes,he rubs his feet together....

Yes, I rub my foot on the bed until I fall asleep. My husband goes to bed (and straight to sleep damn him) at 9 pm and I don't usually get ready for sleep until around 11 or 12. Then I rub my foot until I fall asleep. I asked him if it bothered him and he said he never even noticed it. LOL

I'm addicted to the love of my life, my girl friend. Can that be considered a strange habit? =P

Yes, actually since you asked. I have to pick things in a certain number ammount. My number is 4. I am not exactly sure why I do this but I am a stickler when it comes to doing it. Most everything I buy is in 4, it becomes a very frustrating thing sometimes but I have learned to adapt to it. My friends chuckle when they see what I am doing.
Just a side note, neosporin.

My bizarre habit is cleaning the bathroom before I use it. I hate to clean but each and everytime I use my bathroom, I must clean the snk and toilet before. I keep scrubbing bubbles and a sponge under my bathroom sink. It's so weird. I barely use any restrooms when I'm out and if I must go, I line the toilet like you've never seen. What's funny is after I line the toilet, I never sit down on it, so why line it, right?
