I worked in call centers for the better part of seven years and I have to disagree that they pay well or that there are any advantages whatsoever. Call centers are very dehumanizing, demoralizing environments where workers are generally treated like cattle by employers who are interested in making as much money as possible off them while paying them as little as they can get away with and providing benefits that are little more than an unfunny joke. The last one I worked in was staffed by supervisors who literally timed how long we spent in the bathroom and would write us up if it took longer to take a sh1t than they thought it should. People were also routinely fired for falling asleep at their desks during periods of mandatory overtime and if you were one second late clocking in it was as good as being late by an hour. One center I worked in had such ridiculous attendance policies that it actually worked out BETTER for the CSR to call out of work completely than it was to show up late. It's unbelievably stressful even before you have to deal with customers. Then it's just plain unbearable.

Oh don't worry about me. I'm long done with call centers. I'm teaching now...you know...doing something that actually makes a difference in people's lives. Cheers!
