After searching high and low for a Wii for my kid this Christmas, I finally had to break down and get one off of eBay! I know it's such a ripoff, but I lucked out and paid less than $100 over retail including shipping, so I guess that's not as bad as some have paid! What crazy things have you done to make someones dream come true for Christmas?

I can't afford to buy my son a Wii at normal retail price let alone $100 over retail. Ebay can really be a ripoff when stuff is sold out in the stores. And the worst thing is as soon as Chrismtas is over they will be available in the stores for normal price.

Actually, not Wiis. Wiis have been consistently sold out for well over a year now. Production just can't keep up with demand.

I've seen quite a bit of Wii's in the stores... why does everyone pay so much?

I don't know where you live, but I've been searching for 3 months and have yet to see a single Wii in a store. I think the store workers tell their friends when they are coming in, or they buy them themselves.

I don't understand paying over retail for anything that isn't out of production. Yeah, Wiis are hard to get, but if you absolutely had to get it on Christmas how hard would it have been to start looking sooner? Thw Wii has been sold out since it's release last year. To get one at all, you have to check the stores every single day. I wanted one for Christmas last year and my mother couldn't find one so she gave me enough money for a Wii and a game so that I could get it myself when I could find one. I didn't find one until August of this year.

$100 less? That is awesome. You'll be a hero on Christmas morning and your wallet will be loving you too! That's the beauty of Ebay- it's an auction and if someone makes the mistake of listing an item to end at an odd-ball time or day, you can find ourself winning for much less than the item is worth. I bid on a couple of Pokemon cards for my sons early in the Holiday season and was surprised to win one for $2.70. Each time it has sold since, it has never been below $12.00, so I was very happy to "steal" this card. My husband has picked out cards from Ebay for $40-$50 less than the current value and he sold another card that he thought could sell for $10, and a couple buyers had a bidding war and it sold for over $30 plus shipping. You just never know on Ebay... buyers can pick up some awesome deals there.

Yay! Congrats on your great deal. I know your kids will be thrilled. Everybody is searching for a Wii. I can't blame them though because it's so much fun.
