I have heard the percentage of people in the United States who agree with the theory of evolution is a disappointing 10%. The fact that so many people can ignore such a basic scientific principle worries me, and I'm hoping that us Australians can perform a bit better.Well, what do you all think?

No matter if you believe in evolution or the theory of evolution, we all came from the same place. You cannot take the bible literally or there would be but one bible. There are too many people that interpret the bible different for other people so that is why there are so many different Christian churches. On thing that is said is that God molded man in his own image, While He was molding man it took on the shape of many different things from the single celled animals up to and including the great apes. This is what I believe happened.

Evolution is not science. It is a religion against God. You said "theory of evolution" and it is a theory never proven or will ever be proven. There will still be the problem of where did the ape come from and how about the other creations like trees, etc. Where did all these come from. In the Holy Bible, God specifically mentioned where all these came from and man came from the earth and will go back to earth.

There are many Americans that don't care about science, their religion is more important. It doesn't matter if it is true or not, they won't believe it because their religion says something different. And you can live happily without knowing anything about evolution.Me personally, I believe in the theory and it doesn't conflict with my religion.

According to National Geographic, close to a third of the American populace believes evolution is true. America, sadly, still hangs near the bottom of the list of western countries that believe in evolution. I'm not surprised, though. It does seem like America has more idiots than other countries do. I've tried to be very, very understanding of some people's lack of belief in evolution. I figure, hey, it's their right to believe what they want. Sometimes, though, I just want to knock every single Intelligent Design person's head against a brick wall with all the basic fundamentals of evolution carved into it in the hopes that they might actually understand that it isn't in question anymore. We know evolution happens, we see it all the time. I have a dream that one day a generation of Americans will be born that can think for itself, instead of letting a pile of paper and ink do it for them. In this dream, we will all be able to sit down together and discuss and debate scientific concepts intelligently, instead of screaming "God did it!" Alas...this day is far from coming, but I can dream, can't I?

As an American, I have to agree with everything you feel. Even our "wise" leader was quoted to say "The jury is still out on evolution." So we have a moron leading morons. Its so mind boggling that I cant even discuss this topic without getting heated. I tried to debate it with a pastor on another thread and almost lost my manners. But seriously.. it gives me a headache to think of all the people who still believe God created Eve out of a bone from Adams rib. Its a story, not literal truth. I would like to drop a fossil on thier head from a rooftop, then tell them it was a peice of the sky.... run! Its starting to fall!!

"The evidence for Darwinism is not only grossly inadequate, it's systematically distorted. I'm convinced that sometime in the not-to-distant future people will look back in amazement and say, 'How could anyone have believed this?' Darwinism is merely materialistic philosophy masquerading as science." - Jonathan Well, Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology specializing in vertebrate embryology, 1994, from UC Berkeley
