The third hole in my nose..

I just recently got a piercing in my right nostril. I've only had it a couple days. I got it done at a pretty small, "underground" sort of a place and the guy didn't really specify on the details of how to take care of it. Just "use disinfecting soap two times a day". So, any of you people with piercings out there have any advice or information I should know about? The last thing I want is to have a big, infected, scabby hole in my nose.
I specifically would like to know how long I should keep it in before I can take it out and switch the rings.
I would appreciate anything you can give!

I think it should be in there for at least three weeks to allow for healing. My little niece kept a pin like object in the hole for close to a month, because when she tried to remove it prematurely, the hole was closing up !!

sea salt is the best thing for piercings, TRUST ME. And you shouldn't obsessively clean it, this could dry it out and irritate it, but a simple nostril piercing is okay...I'd keep a straight piece of jewelry in it for a week or so, but if you want to switch jewelry now, you increase the risk of infection, but I did it several times without an issue. The only thing that ever resulted in infection for me was putting a hoop through it within the first couple days because it irritates the shape of the "wound"...let it heal to the shape of the jewelry that your piercer used before you go confusing it :).
And don't play with it. But really, nostril piercings are usually pretty easy to take care of...

Thank you, this was a lot of help. My sister also got her's done and it's still a little red and irritable when touched. I asked her many times she cleans it and she says several times a day. So, maybe that's why it's been giving her problems.
I figured they're pretty easy to take care of, but I just wanted to make sure.
Thank you again. :)

When I got my nose pierced I didnt change it for atleast a month. And I would soak a cooton ball in a mixture of sea salt and water and press it onto my nose for a few minutes. I would be carefull about getting piercings in little underground shops you never know how clean they are. I got my nose pierced at the state fair and that was a bad thing because it started to turn my nose black around the hole so i went to a local piercing shop and got new jewley put in. And also when you buy jewlery for it dont buy cheap stuff unless you only plan on leaveing it in for a short time because it could earitate your nosr and cause problems. Good luck with your piercing.
