It seems that according to my favorite health web site, Web Md, the larger your waist is according to your hips, the better. Well I have been walking, cutting down, doing exercise, and well my legs have gone slimmer, my hips have increased, why even the roll below my belly button is going, but my waist? No it is still at 40. It was at 39 once but then I was awfully sick and fatigued at that time so I guess I was not eating enough. But it seems that the only way I will get my waist down is to become aneroxic and that I refused to do. Do I have to become a mere skeleton of myself to get the waist in the right proportion? Is this so I will not get diabetes or heart condition built into my body size?

I have not done that many twists, mostly crunches and arm stretches plus a few leg lifts, so I will do twists.

I love doing the twist. Not sure if I can do that right now with my back, but dancing is a really fun way to get fit. Take care

well everybody has what they call a trouble area, my trouble area is also my waist and midriff..When i gain weight this is where i gain the first and where i gain the most..It is the same way with everyone, some people have big legs or big arms are big bootie, and when they gain weight they will gain in these troubled area's..When you go on a diet you tend to lose weight every place except the troubled area;s.The trouble area's is the last place you will lose. You seem to be doing everything right but you continue to have a larger waist, so i would suggest you continue to diet and do spot exercises in the problem area's.Look on the internet for exercises for the waist , then do those exercies every day, these area;s like your waist needs and extra boost..This will happen to mosy everybody because we all have trouble area;s...Don't give up you are doing good so far so just continue what you are doing and add waste exercises.

we have the same problem. the waist ...actually if women getting older ugghh...its hard to lose weight since our metabolism performs slower not enough to burn calories... maybe if we just eat the right kind of food and not excessively..plus exercise then for sure we can lose some weight but not sexy as before when we are young...consult a dietician if you want to be sure and be successful in doing so..

I have been going up and down the basement steps four times a day and taking long walks every day, but that does not make a difference. I will have to cut out eating white bread, I can eat whole wheat bread, but even that is a problem since the one I get has so many additives in it, that it is not that good as the real kind.

Here are a couple of exercises I do that help. One is to do stretching, as in reaching one arm way up to the ceiling and then the other, stretching your side. Then when you do sit-ups, instead of just doing up and down crunches, try going side to side, working the obliques which is the muscle in your waist..

My waist was slimmer when I dieted and did crunches. I started with just one crunch and built up over time to 60 crunches and then eventually 100. That took about a year. It was after a double operation to remove both my gallbladder and my female insides. I had benigh tumors. But I was pretty cut-up and my stomach got huge. So I got a Denise Austin video for women who have had a baby including ones that had a C-section. Since I was all cut up, I just did one of each exercise like she said. For about a week, I did just one. Then the next week, I did two, then I found 5 wasn't bad. Then 10. Soon, I was doing great on my own. I tried he harder videos and they almost killed me. So then I got Tony Little's video after his accident for bad backs and necks. His screetching with a guitar is ridiculous, so I fast forward. But his crunches are a little different and challenging without hurting your back. Then I got Gilad's video that includes crunches. Now because of my current back injury, I can't do the twists and turns on some of the tapes, but I do know how to do upper, lower and side without twists and turns. I want to get back into it. If you have a cheap second-hand video or DVD store that sells exercise tapes, you can pick them up easily. Jane Fonda has some good tapes, too. My measurements when I really work out to potential and stick to my diet are 38-30-40 and I have high muscle tone, some fat over the muscles and energy, I am definitely NOT anorexic. I like 130 pounds American in summer and 140 in winter, charts say I should be 116 to 120, only been that when I was sick as a dog and then I looked anorexic. It's hard because all my fat goes to my stomach and thighs and it has gotten worse since menopause. Take care and good luck.

I started to gain weight after thirty. I really should be 140 lbs. and I have a fat roll below my belly button. I do exercises and walks but it is hard.

Thanks I should get some inspiring books. I really hate the winters here. I have started to go for walks since we now have a mild spell, but I find I just maintain my weight rather than lose it.

True, it is hard. I try to read things to inspire me and keep me going. A book, title: Strong Women Stay Young is really good. She has another book out, too. Haven't read that one yet, but it's supposed to be really good. There is a 12 weeks to a better you that has diet and exercise. I ignore the diet because it was for men and had way too many calories for me, I would add weight at that rate. But the exercise was good. I was doing mild weight lifting every other day with ab exercises and back exercises with aerobics, mostly dancing and some self-defense on the other days. Some magazines can inspire you, some can discourage you. There are some online diet and exercise magazines that I subscribed to for awhile.
I used to use ginseng to help me get up and go, but that raises blood pressure in me so I can't use that. But it did get me over fatigue, esp. in the winter time since we have such wickedly long nights. But soon that will change, the longest night is coming this weekend and then the days get longer. So that's encouraging anyway. I think if my husband ever gets the wood stove running again, that will help, too. Take care

Welcome. This is about why it is hard to lose weight around the waist, by the way.

I think that any "standard" applied across the board without taking into consideration the actual genetic differences of people is just a bunch of hooey. It sounds like you are doing lots of things that are really beneficial to you. I think some people just do not have that small proportioned waistline, and that is okay, they do need to do healthy things. You are doing healthy things, not everyone is an hour glass figure.

I have heard and also know that your stomach is the last to lose weight. Keep it up though that is great that you are exersing and on a diet. It will go I am the same way as many times as I have been on diets my waist is always last.

It is hard when your legs get cold because you lost weight there, but your waist stays the same.
