What are your beliefs on the Santa thing. When did you find out?

What age were you when you found out the secret behind Santa Clause? Some people choose to not let their kids believe in the magic of Saint Nick. What do you do? Do you tell your kids that he is not real, or do you let them believe until a certain age, and if so what age do you tell them that he is not real? Just curious. My oldest daughter is 4 and I think that I posted one day when she told me this. She said to me that moma and daddy was really santa claus, and that he was fake. I have some people telling me not to lie to her and to tell her that she is right, then some people tell me not to ruin it for her. I know that when my dad told me I was very mad at him for lying to me. I told her that there was really a santa clause. Did I do the right thing?? I think so but I am not sure.

My kids still believe in Santa. They are 7, 6 and 5, although I suspect the 7yo has her doubts.
I think it is best to let kids figure it out on their own. I have noticed that the ones whose parents or siblings just came out and told them suddenly before they had an inkling themselves have the issues. They weren't ready to realize Santa isn't real. Some kids do develop that understanding earlier then others and will figure it out when they are 4 or 5, whereas other kids don't get it until much older.
But, from what I can tell it is much healthier to just play along until they come to you and ask and not just tell them bluntly about it.
I don't remember how old I was when I figured it out--probably 8 or so. I do remember I was never mad and by then I was into the "spirit" of Santa and took it as a privilege to be able to play Santa to my younger brother. I did everything I could to make him believe as long as possible because it was so much fun.
If she says she doesn't believe any more ask her why and then explain about the "spirit" of Santa. The idea is what makes him special--that there is magic in the world and that any one can and has Santa in them all year round. DOn't forget to keep putting gifts under the tree from Santa and give her that little wink so she knows you know she knows, lol.
I think I had more fun playing Santa then believing in Santa as a kid. I'll play along with my children for as long as they believe and make them understand when they stop believing that they have to keep the spirit alive for their younger siblings.

In my opinion believing is Santa is pointless, the kids are dissapointed if their parents dont go broke and buy them EVERY single thing they asked for. I grew up knowing the truth about christmas, it was about Jesus' birth. We had fun at christmas puting either "From: santa" or from one of the reindeer. I believe I appreciated what my parents did for me and my sister more because i didnt live in the fantasy world of Santa.

I was around 12 years old when I learned the truth behind Sta. Claus..^^..my older sister (2 years older than me) was the one who let out the secret..hahaha..because she got upset when our "Sta. Claus" gave me a nice present..^^...even better than her..so she decide to tell everything about the real Sta. Claus..hahaha..what's so funny is that she told me how she caught the "real" Sta. when she was around 10 years old..she said the "real" Santa wore a skirt..(she was referring to my mom)and then I thought Santa is really a woman...so they all laughed at me co'z I didn't realize that it was our mom she was referring to..^^

Wow, 4 and saying Santa is fake. Mine are 11 and 5 and somewhat believe. I really don't they care who is on the from part of the tag as long as they get stuff for Christmas. It's fun being Santa, the tooth fairy, easter bunny. A couple of years ago I had to come clean about the Easter bunny. My kids discovered bunny hair all over our back yard. It appeared that the Easter bunny didn't make it. That was a fun discovery.
I tell my kids something I read somewhere. "As long as you believe in Santa, there will be a gift under the tree Christmas morning. Now once you stop, there will be nothing there. It works.

I believe that kids should be able to experience that magic of Christmas. My parents never officially told me Santa was not real. I just found on my own and I think it was better that way. I loved the magic and excitement on Christmas Eve knowing Santa was coming to bring presents. I was never mad at my parent for "lying" to me. They just let me have my imagination. I am going to let my kids believe. I am going to just let them be kids and believe in Santa.
