This story is based on history: Leonida made a sacrifice but his sacrifice, only a guy survived and he convinced all the spartans to come and defeat the persians. So it couldn't have a different ending...

You forgot the "s" on the king's name. The king's name is Leonidas. :-)

Although i have been in the room when my husband has watched this movie over 5 times, i have no idea how it ends because it didn't interest me at all. But correct me if i'm wrong, this story has been made into many movies, and they all have the same ending do they not ? I am not sure, but i just thought that i heard that. The only part i remember from the movie is, Our arrows will bock out the sun, THEN WE WILL FIGHT IN THE SHADE. and then later on the guy is giggling because they ARE fighting in the shade. heh.

Heh, those Spartan warriors have an unique perspective. That was one of the funnier moments in the flick.

If it did not end that way, it will not be a great movie anymore and will just be a movie based on fiction. It ended that way because it was historically-based. What's better is to make a part two, the continuation should start where the movie had ended.

I don't think that if the ending of the movie is changed then the talk of the movie have been different..They faught till the end of their life..The climax scene was the heart breaking one and it shouldn't be changed..

I thought the ending was appropriate. The wounded warrior that was sent back by King Leonidas with messages, led the rest of Spartans into battle against the Persians. What did you want to see? More bloodshed? Perhaps that will be in another movie as it will take a while to tell that tale as well.

i agree it coulda been better, but in the sense that i didnt think the movie was over.. i wanted to see those thousands of spartans kick some persian butt all over the place.. this movie came out on imax and a war that huge woulda been awesome to see on such a massive screen.. i wanna see 300 part 2, the end of persian reign.. or whatever they'd call it:)

300 is an absolutely terrific movie. the attitude, the valour the spartans display send a chill down my spine. so much to keep their honour. they challenged and even demured a person who projected himself as god. i think they were bogged down by the wrong priests who just had no respect for these warriors. my personal favorite line in the movie when the king says : SPARTANS NEVER RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!. the greatest sequence when the king as a young lad fights the beast and also , when he kicks the intruder into the well.. BUT THE POINT REMAINS THAT HAD THEY SURVIVED THEN THE MOVIE WOULD HAVE LOST ITS CHARM. THEIR SAGA WOULD NOT HAVE BECOME IMMORTAL

300 was based on the story of King Leonidas and 300 Spartan warriors (together with 700 Thespians, which the movie neglected but was shown in the graphic novel). It is an actual historical event, which resulted in the 3-day delay in the Persians' timetable because of the narrow place called Thermopylae or The Hot Gates. All of the Spartans were killed. IMHO, the ending was dramatic although I would've wanted to see some battles in the end as some sort of closure.
