parents can contribute a lot with this things. i'm still a teen yet my parents raised me up being friends with a book. i'm into the latest gadgets and technology yet i still have this passion in reading books. everyone can motivate others. even you, and everyone who commented here, just lend your friends a thin, interesting book, like what i have done before with my friends, we had this little reading party where a week or two before the party we read a certain book then talk about it and have some books in circulation, where after i finish reading this one i pass this to the other. it's just a sort of influencing everyone around you. :D

I think we still can read on the internet prehaps we should start to write stories on the internet instead of publishing books wasting resources ?

I think they pick a book which is very diff from there interests and the are not able to carry on with the book for very long so i think they loose interest in reading
reading habit should be cultured in a very nice way and should be started early in age

This is primarily because lately the mode of learning tends to evolve. Mostly read stuff online and reading books is like overlooked. :)

as a kid, i read over 200 books a year...i loved reading, it was my escape...now however, i am so busy, i am lucky to read 2-3 books a year! the world is changing too with the internet...instead of reading books we are reading blogs and web journals. I get my news online as well.
something my school did was have a reading club - you read a book, wrote a review, and the person with the most at the end of they year got a gift certificate. i was a pretty big library dork and so won every year, naturally :)
i tried to find my niece a christmas present of a book series i loved at her age - the babysitter's club - it is not even in print anymore!
