Is it OK for cat to act like a dog?

My cat is coming to me any time I call her name (like my dogs). She walks after me, next to my legs and she wants to be close to me. She is greeting me at the door alone with my dogs. She is not barking, but meow only when she is happy during the meal time (happy meow) She is running after my dogs, when they run around the house. If my dogs are outside, she is waiting for them at the door. She sleeps when my dogs sleep, preferably as close as possible. Did you see cat acting like that?

Well I have a dog that acts like a cat! She grooms herself all the time, She even fleas the cats head for him. She sleeps all day, and I think she would purr if she could when you pet her belly! She prefers cat food to dog food too. She will catch a mouse! My cat will come when you call his name, too. I know it is rare for that to happen but mine knows he is about to get petted and LOVES that!

it appears that your cat has formed a good realtion ship with your dogs, which is a good thing. instead of the cat being chased by the dog the two of them have come together as friends. you shouldn't have to worry if your cat is acting like a dog polachicago ^___^. you should be happy that they can live together.

I see. My dogs bark on other cats passing around the house. They like my cat very much. The best part is when I ask them to search for cat...they can locate her within few seconds.....

Sounds like she just likes your dogs very much. Do you have any other cats she can play with? If not then she probably just wants to play with the dogs. You should see my youngest dog. He is 6 months old and sometimes I think he thinks he is a cat because one time I was yelling for him to come in the house and he wouldn't come so I decided to try yelling kitty, kitty, kitty, here kitty, kitty, kitty and he came right to me. Now when I want to get him in the house I always yell here kitty and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Anyway it doesn't sound like anything to be alarmed by, just sounds like your cat loves to be near your dogs and wants your attention just like your dogs do. That's all, no big deal. :)

There is nothing wrong with your cat acting like this. I had a cat and two dogs once, and my cat acted just like my dogs - he came when I called his name, he walked alongside me with my dogs, in fact, he acted just like my dogs, curling up with them in front of the fire! I guess when they all live together in the same household, they see themselves not as a cat or a dog - just as one of the pack! I wouldn't worry about her, it's quite normal.

When I was a kid we had two cats. One that was the typical skiddish cat and one that thought he was a dog. My cat that I have now is also a dog. He hears me car and waits patiently at the door for me. He knows his name and comes running when i call him. We have conversations through his tail wags. He's also very dog like. I don't think it's a "dog" thing... I think it's just a personality thing and totally norma.

When I was still a child, two of my neighbor's cats used to follow me around a lot when I was over their place. She had a total of 3 cats & one dog. It was a good thing I had two hands, one to pet each one with. The biggest difference between a cat & a dog is usually what they look like, but they all have the same needs & desires to be loved & cared for. In your case, at least the cat & your dogs are friends. It's not that often that they're friendly with each other, unless the dog & cat came home with you at the same time as a puppy & a kitten. If the cat starts barking instead of meowing, then there might be a problem.

I don't have a dog but I watched a video once where the cat makes sounds like a bird. I think its TV show or a youtube I don't remember. I don't see anything abnormal about it, sounds like your dog and cat are good friends so the cat thinks it's cool to immitate his moves

if your cat grew up around dogs there is a big chance she'll emulate their behaviour! I think it's cute and funny. I'm more of a dog person so I hope my kitten grows up to be like a dog! Except I don't have a dog for him to follow... I have however seen my grandmother's cat act like a dog. My grandma lives on a farm and has a couple of dogs and a cat. The cat runs around with dogs all the way to the back of the property every day and she even likes to eat out of the same bowl as the dog-at the same time! She sleeps right next to the dogs-even with her head on the dogs' tummy. It's really cute. It's like how you hear stories of a cat being brought up by a chimpanzee or some other animal-it's amazing how love can cross so many boundaries-even species!

Yes, it sounds like my cat. She is very small. She looks like miniature cat. People think that she is about 6 months old, but she is about 16 months old.

I have a "dog-cat", too! I get a calendar with cats in it every year and last year there was a little story under each picture for each month and for one it described a "dog-cat" which is a cat that comes when you call it by name, follows you around like a puppy and basically acts like a dog. My cat has never been around dogs so it's not from that, so who knows what causes it! It sure is cute though, isn't it? Annie

One of my cats is exactly like that. She even plays fetch. It's odd as your cat was probably influenced by your dogs to act like one of the pack, but my Voodoo has never even met a dog before. I don't know where she gets it from!

yup, that's perfectly normal for a cat. i used to have cats who were used to have a dog around coz since they were born they were exposed to dogs so they treat that dog as their friend, but when another puppy came to our house, they were hostile to it even if the puppy was warming up to them they would hiss at that puppy. they would also chase the dog, pretty much like playing with a fellow cat. but not really running as in following the dog when they run,its just a playtime thing for them, and they like to cuddle up with that dog and even occasionally rubbing their fur on them. good for you that you have an affectionate kitty, i wish my cat was that affectionate.

We had a Manx cat. That is a cat born without a tail. He used to growl just like a dog if you picked him up - he didn't like being picked up, but he would jump up onto your knee sometimes and that would be OK. He was quite a character and very strong. :-)

I guess you have one cat and many dogs. She must have learned doggy behavior from your dogs. I have two cats and one dog, and all three are great friends. She has learned catty behavior from the cats. She even scales walls now and tries to cover up after urinating. The funny thing is that even the cats have learned some doggy behavior from my dog. My male cat rushes to me whenever I call his name. When I take the dog for a walk, both cats follow. It is really cute having so many animals around the house. Cheers and happy mylotting

Hello dear polachicago. So it shows that your cat has the same nature as your dogs have, which is funny of the cat. I guess that they must be getting along well with each other in the same house.

Yes, if they grew u together, it's only natural. I used to have a Poodle that grew up around cats. He would take food from his dish and bring it to the carpet and eat it. Then go back to his dish and get more, bring it to the carpet, etc.... He would also sleep on the arm of the sofa or the back of the sofa, just like cats do. He also thought he was a person... But then again, don't most pets think they're people? LOL
