How to tell if a person is lying?

Do you know how to detect a person who is lying? I'm trying to figure it out but its pretty hard.

I think if you know a person really well then you can tell if they are lying. I have noticed sometimes they will look away. Or they wont look directly at you. Other then that i cant really think of anything else.

Yeah, I've tried that already but its not very effective.
