Friend in Hospital

My friend who lives on the first floor in my building surprised me a couple of days ago when she phoned to say she was in the hospital. She does have some health issues, and I am praying for her because she is being transferred to the heart hospital tomorrow morning to have a procedure so they can look into her heart. They told her that she did not have a heart attack, but I am afraid she is seeking attention because she does not have a good relationship with her only daughter. I hope this isn't the case, and that she is not subjecting herself to unnecessary tests in a bid to get attention from her family. She calls me several times a day and I told her tonight that I hope her test will come out alright so she will be home for Christmas. Do you know someone who seems to always look for a problem even when there is nothing there?

Yes I do know someone who seeks attention, positive or negative. Is one of our kids who is an adult now. It's been terribly difficult and I never know what is true or false. I do give her my attention as I do our other kids but it never seems to be enough. She is in the mental health industry so knows the tricks of the trade, so to speak. There have been times when I didn't respond to a few of her hospital visits because I/we didn't believe her. Nothing has ever been really wrong and no hospital stays required. I think it's a sad way to get attention and feel bad for your friend. There are so many positive ways to get her daughter's attention. Does your neighbor have an issue with depression or something of that nature?

Yes she does have these types of issues, carolbee, and I try and tell her that anxiety is probably all that is wrong with her, but she refuses to listen. Well, happily, she found out today that she has a clean bill of health. Maybe now she will settle down.

Yes, and isn't it so sad?!? Poor lady. It's so sad. I used to have a friend that did that and they eventually ended up putting her in a nursing home. :-( I hope this isn't the case with this lady. I really hope she'll be ok. I'll keep her in my prayers. Happy HOlidays.

Thank you, Stephanie5, and I will be sure to pass along your thoughts to her. She has a slight mental condition that contributes to her problems. Merry Christmas to you!

I think that is a crying shame that someone has to subject themselves to this sort of tactic to curry favour with a relative or close one! It's very difficult in families, although it's easier for you being on the outside looking in on the situation and have a clearer picture than your friend seeing inwards at her behaviour or her daughters. There must be an underlying problem there, something that has made her daughter become alienated from her mum. Difficult situation, for both of them.

It is a long story and there is some animosity there, wolfie, but she did find that there is notheing at all wrong with her heart.

I think that alot of people that are lonely, end up getting sick and ending up in the hospital over the holidays. Maybe some of it is the depression they have over being alone. At least in the hospital, they will be around people. Hope she is ok.

yes,it's ordinary to see people worrying about things that doesn't even exist. Just think of the probability of the thing, it's easy to find that it's so little, i hope she will be well soon
