Comic collection is a waste of money!

I have collected comics since I was a kid, I gave them all to my son. I know that some of the comics had a book value of a few hundred dollars. My son went to 3 comic store that buy and sell them, as he wanted to sell his. They told him they would only give $40.00 for the whole collection. We had phoned this store weeks before asking what certain comics we had were worth, the person said in total your comic collection is worth about $1000.00. So it is pretty hard to get any cash from comics, unless it is very rare.
