What factors did you consider before you brought home a pet?

I don't think any of us just goes out and brings home a pet on impulse. My family and I took nearly a month of discussion and debate before we brought home our first pets--a couple of cats. A month later we brought home the dogs; this time everybody was so much in love with the cats that the discussion was not so hot. So what happened in your home before you got your pet? Did you have to fight for it? What prompted you to get your pet? Was it a family decision or an individual one?

I got a dog just over 2 years ago and I think it was more of an impluse thing to be honest lol. My family and I had talked about it a bit but had not decided when we were going to get one. So I did. I met my dog where I was working and fell in love with him right away that he got his name within the first hour I got him, Hershee Xxs, everyone liked it and the price was right:) I do think though if I had waited to talk to the family at the time I wouldn't had been able to add Hershee to our family and even though he can be a pain at times hes one of us. I'm glad I implused and it worked out, lol.

I personally have gone out and bought a pet on impulse many times. I see animals and fall in love with them. My 8 year old daughter is the same way. I've gone out for laundry detergent and came back with a mouse! I probably have every kind of cage or supply for any pet in my basement.
