Strikes are important in order to be heard and get a fair deal. It can also go too far at times. Colbert and Stewart are trying to keep their own money and income flowing. They may have a price to pay when the writers get off strike. We will see.

What are they even striking about? I think I'd support the writers if they were striking for a good cause. Honestly I think they have it pretty good. I think Leno, Letterman and almost everyone is paying their writer's salaries out of their own pocket. Try walking a picket line in front of your work and still get paid.
It seems like all the shows will be back next week (Leno, Conan) so I'm happy.

There is not a lack of support -- many people such as Colbert, David Letterman and Jay Leno were paying their employees (Makeup, camera crew, sound crew et al) out of their own pocket rather than lay them off like shows such as CSI, Desperate Housewives or Law and Order did due to the strike.
The reason they are striking is money. The writers want a bigger piece of the pie for the DVD sales of the show and a piece of the pie for the shows that are available online. The writers only get a tiny fraction of the money rec'd from DVD sales and they get nothing from shows seen online in places such as iTunes where the show must be purchased. The studio execs and the owners of the shows don't want to pony up more money and think the writers should just be happy with what they have.
If this strike is resolved tomorrow, don't count on the shows to come back this year. It'll most likely be next year before we see new eps of the shows. And it's a shame, because most of them just dropped off in mid storyline. At least with Desperate Housewives, that tornado made for a good cliffhanger!
