bottled or filtered water

I know some peole thing I am crazy, but I only drink water that is filtered or from a bottle. I just don't like tap water, even though I am fine using it for cooking. I hear all the plastic bottles from the water are filling up landfills, but I do recycle them. Do you hate tapwater? Does it really taste different or is it just me?

I'm the same way. Tap water tastes like chemicals and the ground (yes, I know what the ground tastes like lol). The bottles are filling up the landfills. I recycle bottles too. Since bottled water (and soda and tea, etc) is so popular I wish there was an easier for everybody for recycle. Like the public trash cans they have on streets. It'd be great if there were public recycle bins.

I agree, when we lived overseas they had recycling bins everywhere. We do have one at the gym, which is a good idea. I wonder if people would use them or just throw whatever they wanted in them.

I don't hate tap water. Actually we boil the water and after that we drink it. I seldom drink bottled or filtered water.

Our tap water has unacceptable levels of arsenic in it - so I prefer bottled water too.

Hi kimberlylynn, What ever water you drink should be boiled to the watering point and cool it and then drink. No water, either bottled in plastic or tapwater is good for health because they all contain some kind of bacteria in it. Once you boil the water, it is sure that at boiling point the bacteria die and the water becomes safe for drinking. There will not be major taste difference to boiling water and tapwater. Good Luck.

It probably would be best to do that. Maybe I will give it a try - thanks!

Why not save a few bucks and a couple of landfills too? Buy an on faucet water filter system. I have one. It is made by Waterpik. Yes, the same company that makes showerheads. Mine is a cartridge type, good for up to 300 gallons. The cartridges go for about $4 and the unit I found at Harbor Freight Tools for $10. No more concerns of where to store the cases of bottled water, no more dolin' out $ after $ to get clean drinking water. Just an idea.

Flavored water? Now that's something I'm interested in! I will have to track this down. And thanks for the BR!

That's a good idea. I had a reverse-osmosis one I put in one house and I loved it. I don't want to put anything too expensive here since I do have one in my fridge filter. I saw one where you can even get flavored water out of that - how crazy!

I am in total agreement with you. Even if the difference in taste IS, in fact, pyschological...isn't that still a good excuse? I do taste a difference and feel more comfortable drinking bottled water...much better than pop, I think, or even anything else I could be drinking.

It is better than pop and my kids like it. They make those flavored packets (sugar free) and they think they are getting a treat when actually I am just trying to steer them away from pop or other sugary drinks!
