How do you get a job with a school system?

We will be moving at the end of this school year. I would love to get an office job at the school or a close by school to where my son is so that I don't have to pay daycare. I have spoken to people who work for schools and for the most part jobs are not advertised, they are word of mouth. If you are an outside, how do you find out if a job is available?

It all depends on what level of school you are looking to work for. Yes a solid reference is great, but most of the city and county school boards will allow you to call the recruitment/human resources office and request a job listing in which they will send you a listing of all jobs available. Also almost all schools willmlist with the State Unemployment Office.
