linux on one hand provides a diffrient look than windows
but, since it is a compleatly open source, customizing it would be a dam thing
where on other hand we ger windows and mac with pre optimal conff which make them more reliable and friendly. connecting to internet(using adsl specialy, with username and password) would bring u down to your knees, if your are not familier with linux kind of networking(or simply networking one and same thing).linux environment has to to be learned before getting into it.

I used Linux long ago - when red hat was hot - and really was kind of difficult to deal at that time. Since then, many user-freindly packages were created and even dell started to ship its computers with it pre-installed. For many times I heard Linux was ready for mainstream, guess not.

ofcourse,if not linux its bro unix is on mainstream, not because its called unix but because of its capablities. about user-friendly i dont think so,since the very core of linix and windows is diffrient it can be made user-friendly, but at some point we realy need to learn it in its way.

Long time ago, linux was like how you describe it now. But now the interface and programs in linux has been change to fit the needs of people who do not have know how or has little knowledge in computers. If you really are a computer geek, then your operating system of choice would be linux.
