Four French tourist were shot to dead with machine guns in Mauritania. They were attacked while having a picnic on the side of a highway. "The four were robbed at gunpoint and then sprayed with automatic weapons fire, said Mohamed Ould Lemine, the police chief of Aleg, a town 150 miles east of Mauritania's capital, Nouakchott." What do you think about this gruesome murder? Full story here: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/12/24/french.mauritania.ap/index.html

Please do not be upset. It is the general feelings that Africa is dangerous and this may be due to the media that have been promoting and showing only the bad parts of Africa. I am sure that there are also many good things about Africa.

This is really a sad news - people gone for picnic and fun but lastly had to give up their life and destroyed their family instead of fun. I think before going to travel adequate information need to collect from Embassy about that country and country's dangerous place and safe place then the saddest incidence will not happen.

Thats horrible. Hearing something like that makes you don't want to go anywhere. If a shame when you can't go on a vacation without thinking that you might be harmed. I think they should get capitol punishment. Because they were minding their own business and enjoying the sights. I just can't stand to here things like that.

This is really no surprise. There are numerous books noting the dangers of Africa. The novel "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver stand out when I think about the violence in Africa. Some say that it's safer to roam Iraq than Africa, because it's so hostile there. It's been like this for decades.

Africa is a very dangerous place. Anyone who pays attention to recent news, past news, and news that predicts what will eventually happen to africe in the future- should know not to go there for just a picnic. Of course its crazy that they got shot, however it is there fault. Because of their blatent ignorance, they caused there own demise.

This kind of thing happens world wide. I'm definitely condoning the actions., of course not. But I just don't see how this indicates how day to day life is in Mauritania, and even less so throughout a massive continent! It was a horrible thing, but that does not mean it would happen to you. You could die tomorrow in a car crash - or even in a hold-up. You can be killed in your own country. But I wouldn't say it was likely - or that the world wasn't a safe place. I know there are places that are safer than others, but there are also dangers everywhere - and I don't think ones like these should influence you that greatly.
