Growing up my parents always made me go to school even if I was really sick. I'm a junior in HS and have never missed a day since pre-K. Some days I would be in the bathroom throwing up and my mom would still make me go. One time I missed the bus because I could not get away from the toilet. You know what, she drove me to school after I was done. She also will not pick me up if I'm sick at school. One time I had a fever of 102 and she brought me some Tylonal and made me stay. The school has always backed down from her. Sometimes the nurse would let me stay in her office even through my parents wanted me to go back to class. I also use to get scolded for going to the nurse.
She always says that I need to learn to suck it up becuase in the real world you can not always call in and that school is important. She also says I need to keep my perfect attendance record. I do no get sick very much anymore thank God, but growing up I did. I have tried telling her that I will make others sick, but she claims that if I cover my mouth and wash my hands that will not be an issue. She also claims that I likley got it from school to begin with. Anyone elses parents do this? What are or going to be your rules with your kids?

If my kids were really sick they stayed home. Forcing a severely sick kid to go to school is cruel and heartless.

"severely sick kid to go to school is cruel and heartless. "
NO it teaches them to grow up.
How many times did I go to work sick and with a fever? Why? I didn't get paid unless I showed up to work. That's not cruel and heartless. That's life.
Parents who force their kids to go to school are teaching them that life doesn't revolve around them and you can get fired from a job if you miss work.

So what exactly is this feverish, puking child learning? Let's see you head on in to work while your puking your guts out. Hope the customers like seeing you vomit. And while we're at it let's take all them lazy so and sos who just came out of heart surgery and get them back on line at the factory!

There is a big difference between heart surgery and puking. I have gone to work many times puking my guts out all because I knew if I missed, that was unpaid time off. I worked paycheck to paycheck and 99% of the time, at the end of the month, I didn't have enough to cover my bills and that was working 5 days a week @ 8 hours a day.
BUt sure. Let's get those lazy b*stards out of the hospitals faster. No wonder my ins premiums are what they are every \month.

In all honesty i think more parents need to be like yours. There are so many parents that let their kids just stay home for the fun of it. And then they come to expect it.
My rules would be that they have to go to school unless they are sick. And they would have to be really sick. My parents never just let us stay home. And if you have a little cold theres no point of staying home either.

I'm not having kids, ever, but if I did, I'd be like your parents. Mine were the same way.
I went to school with a broken arm. I went to school the day AFTER I broke it.
I went to school the day after surgery on my hand.
I went to school sick.
I went to school with a fever.
I went to school throwing up.
I went to school with PMS problems. I called home to get my mom to come get me. She refused saying I only had 7 more hours to go and I should tough it out. I wound up sleeping in the nurse's room as I was cramping that badly.
Children do not need to miss school for headaches, sinus aches or least of all VACATIONS. I dated aguy who had a sister that pulled her kid out of class for vacations. Um hello? Schedule around the kid's school or just don't go! What do they learn? School is not important and it is!
No wonder so many kids now a days are flunkies.
