How can the publisher clearing house pay $5000 a week for life yet......

...there are people in the US wondering if there will be any Social Security funds for them when they are eligible to collect the money they have been putting into it all their working years?
When I saw the commercial for this I coudln't help but wonder how they have all of that money to give away and our government can't even take care of the people that they should be taking care of. Even the elderly now have to pay for health insurance even when they can't afford it. People in their 30's are worried about what will happen to them once they are in their 60's and where the money is going that they are paying into Social Security since they keep telling us there may be no SS by that time...if not sooner.
Where does a place like PCH get the money to do these things? The only thing I can think of is the revenue from magazines since I know the real price that publishers ask and believe me it's not the twenty something dollars that most people pay. Can this be the only answer?

PCH is a HUGE, multi-faceted business that has many tentacles reaching out into different interests that would attract plenty consumers, ctry. I know because I have dealt with them for more years than I care to remember, LOL. They are a flourishing mail-order business(I order from them much more than I should), magazines, insurance, and they have a search engine by the name of Blingo. Maybe if we had PCH running the government for us the country would be much better off than it is, ha-ha!

I don't have any idea, and who knows i have never known anyone to win,oh they say people win,but i am yet to see it happen...As far as social security i do know that people are concerned about it, but i do not see anyway that social security will not be any longer.They have to care for the people on social security.I really do not believe the government is as broke as they say they are..Look at all the money the President makes and all the politicians.I think they do this for one reason and one reason only and that is so they can raise taxes and get more money out of us.I do not believe that we are in dire need of oil and i do not believe that gasoline is a problem either.I think they say that so they can raise the price of gas.The government is not the most honest thing you know, they tell you one thing and do another..I don't think social security will go out,if it does then they will have to have another plan to take care of the elderly, so until another plan is in the making they will not do away with social security, I feel its just a scare tactic...

It is PCH money, not government money. They are a profit making business. Maybe the US government should start selling magazines. Besides 5K to the government is like a dime to you.
We must remember SS started in the hole, they started by paying out to people that had never paid in. They never anticipated a baby boom where a large number of working people will stop paying in but start collecting. The money was also used for other things instead of just being left for SS uses. I have been paying in for almost 40 years now. I hope I will get something back.
People in their 30's now have ample time to squirrel away retirement money. My son is 21 and has saved several thousand towards his and that amount will keep growing.
