Why are you straight?

What is your reason for making the choice to be straight? Do you hate men or wmen, depending upon your gender? Did your father over masculate you, making you go to sports events and such? Did your mother refuse to let you play with dolls or did your brother refuse to let you play with trucks? If you are female, did another woman molest you and make you want to be with men? If you are a man, did another woman molest you and make you want to be with women?
Tell me? Why did you make the choice to be straight?

My mom made we wear pretty dresses and she let my hair grow long, then curled it with socks. My dad had the NERVE to call me names like his little princess and told me how he'd beat up any boys that wanted to take me on a date. I think I always knew I'd been unfairly influenced into liking boys; my parents used some kind of brainwashing to make me develop my first crush in the first grade and I think my mom fed me something so I'd get those silly butterflies in my stomach when I'd see my first "boyfriend". It wasn't until it was much too late that I knew for sure I'd been pushed into making the choice to be straight. Thinking back, they also used some reverse psychology on me, like telling me I couldn't leave the house wearing a short skirt like that or the boys would think I was "asking for it" or that I shouldn't be alone with boys or let them kiss me because that was bad. They wanted me to rebel and choose to be with boys. Yep, now I know exactly how I was tricked into choosing to be straight!

Annie, my favorite response and I can't see any better. You caught the heart of this post.
I chose to be straight when my gay brother wouldn't let me play trucks with him, but my straight brother let me play with his barbies. LMAO.
Thanks so much for the laugh

Thanks so much, Cyn, for the BR! What a great topic this is and how clever of you to turn the tables on those who insist homosexuality is a choice. This is something that's driven me crazy for ages, I mean, how can people say we "choose" who we love and are attracted to? It's genetic, biological, chemistry - whatever term it really is - it's not a lifestyle choice, it's a life. (I loved that quote from another poster here, that was wonderful.) Maybe someday we can get over all the stereotyping and attacking and learn to live by the golden rule and love each other for what we are! Happy New Year!

Great Post.Like my gay fellow humans,I am straight because I was born that way.It has nothing to do with " choosing" one way or the other because of an experience in child hood. It has to do with what you are attracted to.Some people like men and others women. And the very special people like both.It isn't a " life style". It is a life.

"It isn't a " life style". It is a life. "
Right on!! Lifestyle implies choice and action. Gay people are gay, period. If you are attracted to your own gender, you are gay, regardless of what you do.
Gays have as much right to live their lives as heteros. Thanks for the response.

lol I love the questions. It's always fun to turn things around on people.
Just for fun, I'll answer...
I am straight because it's easier. I've been judged for being too fat (although on not obese). I've been judged for being lazy (because I don't go through life with a sense of urgency).
I've been judged for being oversensitive (God forbid I get my feelings hurt when someone critisized me).
I really don't need to give them one more thing to tell me I'm wrong about do I?Being straight is just a whole lot easier, isn't it?One of my favorite lines from a movie comes from Thelma and Louise.
In court the woman (can't remember the characters name) is asked if she's a lesbian. Her reply was "Although I am not a lesbian, I do understand the inclination"
YOu can probably interpret that in many different ways.
My first interpretation was that guys are @$$e$ and women are nicer...but of course I realize there are other interpretations as well. What do you think?

It's a good thing you put "sarcasm alert" at the end of that...I've noticed sarcasm doesn't translate well with some people on this fabulous interwebs...
...so...feeling frustrated? Tell me how you REALLY feel. :)

After a number of years of being straight, I've finally come out of the closet. I have to admit that this is a choice that I made before I knew about the choices. I have no clue why I am straight, but dammit, there must be a reason.
Thanks for your response.

I presume a natural genetic disposition coupled with re-enforcement by cultural normative values and the existential choice not to run counter to genetic programming and cultural normative values. So, much sounder reasoning and reliable that the egotistical reliance on introspection.
