My boyfriend keeps his accounts separate because of the business. We always talk about any major spends but I feel that having my money separately stops him controlling my spending because he likes to save up for a rainy day. I tend to think that I could get run over by a truck tomorrow so lets enjoy what we have today. If we had a joint account it could cause problems

Marriage is a partnership. It doesn't work if there is "his" money and "her" money. Marilyn and I have been married for 26 years and what's in the family account is "our" money and it's used to pay "our" bills and yes, LauraLeigh, occasionely we each have a little "splurge" - but we don't feel guilty about it because we discuss it first, and over time it evens itself out. i believe that if there is a perfect understanding between a couple only then they should go in for a joint account. in a way its very good as during any emergency the either of the two can do the proceedings rather that waiting for the other to do it,and before it gets too late.

My husband and I split the bills but have seperate accounts. That way if I splurge a little on something i want he can't get mad and vice versa!!!

In LIFE's BANK, THEY ALREADY HAVE A JOINT ACCOUNT. Why not in a Bank. Mutual trust is the basis for all, more so in joint account.
