freedom being defined when we are all equal have the same access to same resources protected by same laws. when the "ONE" has the same rights as the "WHOLE". when gays and lesbians have a right to become a union to marry. when a male-lawyer/judge is allowed to have long hair in a pony-tail in court before public. when beyond our control that we were born as a boy not a girl of white caucation not black to irish parents not indus. not being afraid of exposing oneself identity instead hiding behind fake name. being able to publish your opinion. being able to accept others' freedoms. following the law you say? why st-marry's hospital in montreal a public hospital subsidized by the government allowed displaying religion-icons over its public places including the patient's room above his bed? how do this religion-icons at st-marry's hospital help performing hospital's tasks? in which way do they have anything to do with the operation of a hospital? are the patients in better hands looked after better with the icons than without them? is a TAXI of a less of a public-place than st-marry's? are you of a less worth than someone elsses? which law do you want me to follow? our young boys gave their lives in WW2 so we could be free to remember remembering by displaying. i fail to see the connection between language and freedom? are you to imply that our young boys were all french speaking? my name: Arieh Perecowicz. you may find me and my story aired on CBC-TV-NEWS on youtube at:

I finally did see the web site and lionpuppyheart is being descriminated against. He should be allowed to display the mezuza which is so important to his people even if he is a secular Jew. It is part of his birthright, part of his civilization. His Government owes him an apology for the insult that they have shown him first by the tickets and then by the lies they told to try to cover up their errors. And finally They should refund the money they have charged him. A taxi driver lives from day to day, they do not make enough to pay such fines!

Do you feel the photo(s) may deminish the quality of the taxi-ride?
Do you feel the photo(s) might cause a distraction?
Do you feel the photo(s) is/are offensives?
Do you feel the photo(s) infringes on someone elses' rights?
Do you feel it is unprofessionally in a public-transport?
Do you feel that paying for the ride give you the rights to...
Do feel it give the impression of an unclean/messy car??

Until the authorities come to a final decision, I would remove everything except the Mezuzah. That way they cannot give you any more tickets. I am sure that you cannot afford to keep paying these fines. Most christian drivers put a st. christopher statue in their cars so I do not think that they will get you for the Mezuzah. If they do, I think it would be a case of racism. I hope things get better for you!

Should you be a mother, (that is if you are)---- how would you feel if your son took your photo off?
Do you think that our RIGHTS to FREEDOM begins and ends with RELIGION -- ONLY?
What about your rights as a woman?
your rights as a human?
what message do you send by your respond?
How others would perceive you?
Do you think that displaying the Canadian-Veteran-Memorial-Poppy is in vain?
and what about the photo of the Rebbe? should I remove it too?
No I did not remove any of them.
I continue displaying them all.
I did not pay the tickets -- I contested them and contested the By-Law itsselve for being discriminatory.
I filed with the Quebec Human Rights Commission.
We either have rights or we don't.
you can not be "half pregnant".

You bring up a great point! Funny how it is okay for the government and big businesses to have these religious symbols all around them though they have nothing to do with the business conducted inside their walls. I'm sure you are one of several thousand drivers who not only have symbols of their faith in their taxi, but photos of family as well. Seeing to how it is your workspace, I see nothing wrong with a little adornment to make it a little more personal. If you were working in a cubicle, you'd be allowed this without question. As for the charge of being messy, there should be a clear definition of what is considered a messy taxi so that ALL drivers will know what the limits are. As to your religious icon, it is no different than the cross that many Christians put on their dashboard or wear around their neck. Forbidding you to have this on display in your workspace is blatant discrimination and in direct contradiction to what the law obviously allows others to publicly display. I hope you win your case. It's quite disgusting to see the abuse of authority. If publicly funded enterprises are allowed to display their choice of religious icons, then it HAS to be okay for those in the private sector to do so as well. Amd one final item, welcome to myLot, lionpuppyheart!

I tried twice to go to the web site that you provided and could not get there, but I think I can still give a bit of a response to your Query.
If I were to go to a hospital with a name like St. Marrys, I would expect to find a lot of Catholic Icons on display. If I went to a Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, I would be shocked to find any meat on the menu. If I went to a Jewish Hospital, I would expect to be able to ask for and receive kosher meals without any problem.
I do not find any of these things out of line. They are to be expected. They are not superior or inferior, they just are. You are not so naive that you do not know these things are around you. If you do not like these realities, then go to a county hospital or a private hospital that is not run by a religious group. These places also exist and are less expensive. Do you wish to deny the religious people the right to go to hospitals of their choice just because you do not like them? Get a grip. There is a world around you that is made up of all kinds of folks that are really different than you are. It is what makes life interesting. If everyone was just like you, well......

My dear Andoniah - I think you have missed our host's point. He was referencing these items to show that they ARE allowed in these places of business where as he is NOT allowed to have any religious symbol(s) in his taxi - his place of business. I don't know if you tried the corrected link, but to get the full story it is worth the while.
