I am working in a government agency here in my country for more than three years now, and luckily i have been promoted. But i feel that salary wise. its not enough on what work that i do. Its the situation here, you work too much for the government and compensation wise, the private sector pays much more. Im not whinning but a bit maybe. lol
i just want to know how about in other places? other country? is it the same. The government pays lower than the Private sector?

and you are lucky you are luckier than me. ^__^;;
yeah. working in the government is better when you look at the long term perspective. but on the short term, when you look at this point it would be understandable why many young people resign after a few months and seek a better opportunity. .

I'm a bit better. lol Coz ive been promoted on my 2nd year. I was excited when I passed my CSC Prof license and I search all govt agencies so I can work, but now that I'm here, its a bit tiring after 3 years. They say that working in the government gives you a sense of security unlike in the private sector, that when they want to fire they can easily do it. but here, you are protected because of the CSC. And when you retire as you said, theres a better pension and one thing I like here is that leaves VL and SL are accumulated if you dont use it, unlike in private where it is forfeited at the end of the year. but its for the long term, for the short term, like the monthly salary and fringe benefits its very less.

hi larskie... i don't work for the government but i do have a friend who used to work at phil tourism...(are u from the phils? well if you are, continue reading this. if not, don't read my post anymore)
so about my friend who works for the phil tourism. he used to have real good benefits, like hospitalization, mid-year bonuses, free sacks of rice every 4 months i think. promotion was not so often but he had a steady growth for the past 10 years or so that he's been with them.
but last year, he started to get tired of doing the same job everyday. he worked as a systems administrator there. so he looked for a job in a private company. it took him a long time to get hired but he likes his new job now as a systems administrator for an american law firm that has a satellite office here in the phils. pay is much better and he's happy again.
i think if you want to transfer to a private company, what's important is your qualification for the job you want. if you think you're good at what you're doing and you have a really good working experience, try it out. like they say, the grass is greener on the other side. check out your options. there's jobstreet.com and jobsdb.com that you can check out.
good luck!

Hi chari_dc, just wondering, is your surname dela cruz? i have a friend who wrote _dc on his name too, and he's dela cruz. :-)
Anyway, thanks for sharing your friends experience, im not from Tourism, im under the DOF, and fringe benefits are not that good, we dont have the rice allowance nor hospitalization, but of course I bonuses are there. Sometimes its tiring, because its the same job you do everyday.
Thanks for your advice and yes, my jobstreet and jobsdb account are active and im looking for the greener pasteur but i havnt seen it yet.

Here, some government agencies pays higher than other agencies, they have the thing called 'charters" like my agencies, it follows the standard chartered that the government imposes, so salaries are standardized. Unlike other agencies that are not included in this standardization, they can give whatever salary they want to give to their employees and declare other benefits that they want.

I do not work for the government but sometimes I wish I did. I believe that the greatest government job that one can be would be that of a teacher. But I believe that the government pays more then that of private sectors. For instance, in the state of North Carolina, there are only a handful of private schools that have money being pumped into them constantly. The teachers on the other hand have salaries which are basically neglected. Government teachers get paid almost $2.000 more then that of a private school teacher.

Hi there, thanks for your post. Yes, I believe too that being a teacher is one of the greatest job there is, you will always take pride. But teachers here too is not paid good enough, some teachers has 100 students and the working conditions are not good, specially on public schools, many teachers here go abroad because other countries pay much higher.
