Umpires and wrong decisions - Should third umpire intervene ?

When I see umpires give wrong decisions, I feel really sorry for the cricketer. We can vent our anger out and cry foul, but the poor cricketer cannot even argue. I feel that if the decision of the umpire is wrong, the third umpire should intervene and right the wrong without being asked. Maybe the standing umpires may feel bad, but the whole game can change due to a wrong decision, so in the betterment of the game, this should be done. What is your opinion.

i'm not familiar with cricket but i have dealt with umpires before when i was a softball player back at school. Normally, there would be 2 to 3 umpires, one in the home base, and the others in the field. the umpire in the home base usually makes the decision and that really sucks to the highest level. .

Being in your position, I would have torn my hair in frustration. Poor you. It must be awful to have a unfair umpire for any game. Can the coach do anything in such circumstances ? I think not, but then I dont know.

we didn't had a coach then. formally, we didn't have a coach. but a lot of alumni were coaching us. ^__^;; our professors are not that supportive because they have their own group! LOL and even if we did have a coach, i think they wouldn't be able to a thing just like you said. ^__^;;

i also feel the same as you. I feel bad for the cricketer. i think the third umpire should intervane and also i think why umparires are given so much authority to do whatever they want? Cricketers can't even argue? why it is so? They should be given fair chance to take their point then and there.

Even in tennis, the player has a right to ask the umpire where the ball fell or question his decision. Only then will the player feel justified in playing the game fairly.

Cricket is gentleman's game and all cricketers are professionals. so even though the umpire takes wrong decision, the player is not going to feel for it as he knows that's how the system goes. as per cricket rule, third umpire cannot take decision on his own, unless he was called by ground umpires. icc must take appropriate action to ensure that the ground umpires are upto standards. this is the only way to reduce the number of wrong decisions.

Even gentlemen feel when the decision is wrong, but I do agree that icc must have up to standard umpires. Even then, they make mistakes and the player or team suffers. I still feel third umpire must intervene. Thank you for yor reply.

Its just unfair and such practices must be done away with for the betterment of the game and the spirit of the teams.
