Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology provides access to GSM and GPRS mobile services over unlicensed spectrum technologies, including Bluetooth and 802.11. By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable subscribers to roam and handover between cellular networks and public and private unlicensed wireless networks using dual-mode mobile handsets. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice and data services as they transition between networks.

I'm not that into tecnology, so I didn't understand much... But as I can read out of your(cut/paste?)answer, it seems like a tecnology for the future. Do you know when this is going public for us, the ordenary phone users? I'm fed up with high phone rates!!!

Basically it means you will have access in a larger range.. sort of like roaming on your cell phone now.. you will be able to use networks other than your own if you are out of range of your own network.. they don't say you won't be paying a price for this.

Hi, janytt!
If I remember correctly it meens UNLICENCED MOBILE ACCES. I heard that this was going to be the new cellular phone system or something like that.... I allso think I've heard it had something to do with IP-phone calls and wireless routers?
In that case, I think the companys that starts to use this system will blossom! The call rates are artificialy high!
