squirrelly

I have been driving for around 25 years and in that time have never run over a visible creature (probably a caterpillar, ant, worm etc) then this year I have run over and likely killed at least 4 squirrels! I hate it! I try so hard to avoid them but they dart back into my path and under my tire - bump, squish - and the squirrel flits a bit... augh, I hate that I make it suffer but I can not always predict the movements the squirrel is going to make and they seem to be a bit more squirrelly as of late. What is in those nuts anyhow?

Oh dear I'm sorry to hear both your bad luck and that of these poor squirrels. I'm like you and have over the years stopped in the middle of the road to let little creatures clear the road but one time I did hit a chipmunk. All the kids, included 2 oldest who were teenagers at the time, were with me and I pulled off the road and cried for 5 minutes at least. The boys on the other hand proceeded to use it against 'Mom' for years to come :( jokingly calling me 'murderer' or yelling out the windows to warn other animals that might be in my path.

aw, faith, you are a more tender hearted person than myself - I fretted and felt bad but did not cry or pull over. you are such a sweety!

You are so sweet - I on the other hand am a crier: cry when I'm happy, cry when I'm sad, cry when I'm mad. I cry at commercials :(

I know what you are talking about. I have done that also. I tell people my mind is like a squirrel in the middle of a road. LOL

It does feel bad to run over a poor little creature like a squirrel, but at least you weren't hurt. I've almost gotten in accidents trying to avoid hitting animals that run out in front of my car, but so far I've been lucky, and never got hurt. I did hit a bird once, and I felt bad all day. I couldn't avoid it, it happened so fast, on a windy day, the wind just blew the bird right onto the grill of my car. My husband had worse luck, as he once nearly totaled his van after a deer ran out in front of it. The deer was hit, but managed to run off. A month later, he hit another deer, and that one broke it's neck, but the van didn't get much more damage. There are so many deer around here, that almost everyone I know has ha a close encounter with one while driving. I think that if one ran out in front of my little car, it would be very bad for me and the deer.

I've hit a squirrel before. It is very sad. I also hit a rabbit. It zigged, and I zagged, and we met in the middle. Around here, everyone hits a deer at some point or another. Also very sad. But there is an over abundance of animals at times of the year, and I think this is the way nature renews it's self.
