Does anyone have any airline/airport horror stories to share this holiday season

I just talked to my son. He's enroute to Eugene, OR today with his girlfriend. They were up at 5 a.m. and braved the snowy roads driving to Des Moines to catch an 8 a.m. flight. Now their flight won't be leaving Des Moines until 11:15 a.m. Because of that later flight, their connecting flight in Denver won't leave until 9 p.m. tonight putting them into Portland sometime after 10:30 p.m. I can't imagine spending the entire day hanging around crowded airports. We flew out to Eugene over Thanksgiving leaving at 6:30 a.m. and arriving at our destination at 2:30 p.m. That was long enough.
