Anyone remember that wonderful song from a couple of decades ago? I always admired Bette Davis because she had that fire and attitude about herself. She ranks among the best actresses, IMO, of all times. She was, by all accounts, a woman who lived life on her own terms-that's my kind of person! Although she may have been controversial at times, she was loved by millions and respected for her acting ability. I really miss actresses of her caliber, how about you?

Indeed I miss those great ones!!! There are many good to great actresses out there today, but it doesn't seem the same..it's hard to beat the classics!! Kate Hepburn was quite a woman also... Audrey Hepburn another...Betty Davis was such a character in real life also!! They all seemed to "become" their characters...

I have say that after I replied to this discussion, I tried to think of anyone in today's movies that hold a candle to those classy classics...and I could barely come up with any!!! I do Charlize Theron for her acting ability...and her desire to play any really interesting character..I forget the name of the movie but she played a killer and it was a true story..and there was a "documentary" out that interviewed the real woman..it was eerie....they looked the same...she had her walk down...anyway.. I love Meryl Streep and think she may come the closest..but, you are right, worldwise1.."it ain't what it used to be!"

I know the Charlize Theron movie you are referring to, rx4life, but I cannot recall the name.

I think, rx4life, that there are not so many out there today who could hold a candle to some of the greats of the past. I really love those old movie heroines.

I like her a lot too.The closest we have to Bette these days is Susan Sarandon. Both are strong and will tell you exactly what they think about anything.

I am not that familiar with Susan Sarandon's work, sarah, but the couple of movies I've seen her in were good ones.

As soon as you said Bette Davis Eyes I thought of Roberta Flack, I am sure she was the singer, that's off the top of my head, because I loved that song too. (If I'm wrong I'm sorry) and having a brunette moment lol! She was definitely a gusty lady and she certainly knew how to live life, she will always be remembered as an all time great.

Although I think you're wrong about it being Roberta Flack, wolfie, I do love the song-and the actress. I think the next time I see one of those offers for a bunch of old movies on DVD collection, I will buy it. I have one with a lot of the Hercules-type movies.

I couldn't agree more. There was much more serious acting in the good old days. Now, there are special effects to mask the lower quality of acting. There are still some very talented people working in the business, but overall many are way overrated. I still like that song from 1981, I believe, done by Kim Carnes. I have the 45 rpm single and the vinly LP. Bette Davis was her own person, not a fake like many you see today.

Lucky you, sigma! And you are right about the singer being Kim Carnes. I remembered as soon as you mentioned her name.

You still have a life, ctry, it just wants a bit of spicing up, lol. Try stepping out of your comfort zone a bit.

Hi,
Yes, I do remember the song it way by Kim Carnes. I am a big Bette Davis fan also. My favorite movie of hers is "All About Eve" where she played a self involved aging actress who was still beautiful but needed constant praise and acceptance. This is the movie that the famous bumpy ride line came from. Her actor husband,Gary Merill, starred in it as her and director of her current play I could go on and on about her movies. I too think she showed class when her daughter wrote a tell all book. She refused to say anything bad about her. I tried to imagine some of the actresses today and Maybe Glenn Close could do some remakes but that is really calling it close .You have great taste.debbie97420

I remember that movie so well, debbie! Wasn't she great in it? But, she was great in everything I ever saw her in. You should check out her official website, www.bettedavis.com.

She was a great actress wasn't she!?! Sure, I remember that song, and of course I do remember the look in her eyes. Every once in a while I'll watch an old movie of hers, even though they're in black and white. Some of the plots were hokey, but most of them were pretty good despite. She was definitely a magnetic personality in her time.

If I had to pick my favorite actress from that era, it would be Bette Davis. It was great how she could play wicked or nice, glamorous or frumpy. She had a lot of range. And, even though I didn't think she was attractive, she was such a good actress that when she was playing someone men fell for, you could believe they found her beautiful.
And, yes, I do remember the song Bette Davis Eyes.

She did have an incredible range, Angelwriter, and she had a beautiful soul to go along with her talent.

If you've never seen it, I recommend the movie "Jezebel" starring a very young Bette Davis. Sort of the "flip side " to Gone With The Wind". She was a bad girl!!

I fell in love with this song because of the movie "final girls" I wonder what is the color of Bette's eyes since her movies are black and white
