Former Arkansas Governor and GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said after the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, "The United States should have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our border, and particularly to make sure, if there's any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country. We just need to be very very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally." As far as I've heard there were no condolensces to Bhutto's family or supporters, just a call to basically unduly harrass Pakistanis coming into the U.S. What are your views on these comments? Am I alone here in thinking they were totally inappropriate and disrespectful? Annie

Well have you ever considered why? When something like that happens there will surely be some idiots somewhere who blame the wrong people (America). When it is highly emotional about that, people will draw their own conclusions and seek revenge upon whomever they deem fit. This COULD be us, it could be germany, it could be their own people within, it could be anyone! So every country and every person involved directly and indirectly should guard themselves very well. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

Who can disagree with "Better safe than sorry" but I totally disagree with this approach to it! There are plenty of idiots everywhere and there are plenty who blame America for just about everything, I won't argue about that, but for the initial comment of someone who aspires to be the Leader of the Free World to be putting all the people from a particular nation on notice that they're going to automatically be suspected terrorists is not the way to elevate our good will in the world, now is it? Especially when he didn't even bother to offer condolensces to her family or loved ones, he just instantly turned it into one of his main campaign themes, immigration. Of course we need to be careful but to offend hundreds of thousands of Pakistani people who have chosen to come to America to make a better life for themselves is not the way to do it! Huckabee has enjoyed a huge surge in the polls recently, in part due to his "regular guy" kind of image I suppose but the more he's come under scrutiny the more it's obvious he doesn't have what it takes to be President. The last thing we need is another Dimwit in Chief with a twang! (NO OFFENSE to those with accents! I find them quite appealing most of the time!) Annie

true I will agree that the first thing out of his mouth shouldn't be that. In fact it should just be a given that we will be better safe than sorry, and offer our condolences. If you didn't mean to offend people with accents then why did you even say that? lol.

I have been generally unimpressed with everything Huckabee says. I don't know a lot about him but he seems to share a level of intelligence and common sense with our current president. I don't mean to offend anyone with this opinion of mine, but I have never cared for our current president and I will be very scared for the United States if Huckabee is elected to replace him. That being said, I'm not sure of who is the best candidate, but I"m pretty sure of several people it is NOT and Huckabee is very high on that list. DId you hear that he also was making fun of Cheney accidentally shooting someone and nearly shot some reporters himself in the process? Not the sharpest crayon in the pack without a doubt!

That's cold. How would we Americans feel if the situation were reversed and another country was told to be wary of us in the wake of our president or a former president being assasinated. I don't have anything else to say because it's just plaina stupid, heartless, ignorant comment to make under the circumstances and it makes me mad that we have/or could have people like this representing our country.
