Watching the Box...Positive or Negative Influence on Today's Youth!?

You've all heard it...watching TV kills your brain cells; watching TV rots your head, TV is no good. But is they're really any truth to any of those common sayings? Many people today believe television is a positive influence, but is it really? There's violence on almost every channel nowadays, in some shape or form...so how do we protect our youth and our minds from that? What do we do about it? Because of watching television we're becoming more accustomed to violence so it's having less of an effect on us since it is seen so frequently. I believe this is one of the greatest negative effects of television, besides rotting our brain. However, it can be positive from a learning and multimedia aspect...as long as it's watched in moderation. What do you think? Am I right/wrong? What's your opinion on this matter? Discuss.

I think it depends on which shows you watch. For my son the only channel he can catch on his tv is LPB which is a eductional channel for kids teaching colors numbers and counting and also reading. My husband only watches the discovery or history channel so either way they are still learning new things everyday just by watching tv.

That's true...but sometimes when your changing channels you might land on something unwanted, and if little kids don't have anything blocking access to such things, it can really be a negative influence on them.

watching tv can also rot your brain if you neglect to do homework or studies for it. What do you think?

Yes, that is why I am a stron believer in parent controls. Also you should have a rule that your kids do not do anything untill all homework and studies are completly finished.
