well,....... don't start it to think about it. Words and worrys are like a pray. Same effective like a pray. Just spend time more with him.. give only healthy food and play with him. And check Becky condition at vet once a while.

Our dog Tasha in the lap of luxury - This is a photo of our lab/shepherd female dog Tasha. She is going into her 16th year and we are not sure how long she will be with us. Until her time comes we make sure our grand madam lives a good life in the lap of luxury.
Hi...cute dog! Also, welcome to Mylot. This topic is timely to the circumstance my husband and I are in. We have two dogs and our oldest is a female. She is a lab/shepherd cross and is going into her 16th year and that is considered really advanced years for a bigger breed dog. Our other dog Cherokee is a husky/shepherd cross and is around 8 years old. Sadly, Tasha's time is coming because her hind quarters are weakening and she fall over a lot. Although she doesn't seem to be in any pain she is also reluctant to do her business outside at times and it is becoming a problem for us. My hubby and I promised ourselves when our other male dog lived to 141/2 years that we would never allow our pets to live past the time where they have a good quality of life. I think how long dogs live have a lot of co-factors...food...the amount of it, their weight, the amount of exercise they get, the breed. So it is always hard to gauge the lifespan of any pet...just like people there are always variables. However, I hope you and Becky continue to enjoy the bond you share for many years to come. I have included a photo of Tasha...thankfully she is still with us. Nice topic, Raia

She has her up and down days...but she has a huge heart and a VERY determined will. We sense she is not ready to leave this plane yet and as long as she isn't suffering we will do our part to provide the best quality of life possible...because like all pets that is what they deserve. Hopefully you and Becky will also continue to share your bond for many years to come as well. All the best... Raia

My dog is just 10 months old, still acting a lot like a small puppy but he has calmed down quite a bit the last few months. No longer the hyperactive pup that would climb walls when not being exercised enough, much calmer around the house now :)

Grady, who is a Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) is nearly 16 year old. The rest of my dogs are under 7 years old, (6, 2, and 11 months.) It really varies on the breed and the lifestyle they have led. Grady, although a working breed has lasted much longer than most Heelers, who's usual life expectancy is 10-12 years of age. His longevity could be due to the fact that he was not worked at cattle when he was young. He was not put on cattle until he was 4 years old. He has had a pretty easy life. Some toy breeds, like the Shih Tzu, I have seen get well into their teens as well. Then I have seen some breeds that just don't live past 10. I think it is partially inherited, partially due to the lifestyle and care they receive.

My dog is 5 years old and she acts like she is old to get attention when people are looking. If nobody looking she acts like a puppy, for some reason she thinks people like it when she acts like she is having a hard tim getting on the couch or bed. LOL, If nobody is in the room or soemthing and she thinks you arent watching she will get up just fine, she will even run up on it. LOL. But I also red Marley and Me and I cried reading the ending. And it also made me very happy for Coco:)

Becky is adorable! It is unfortunate that the bigger the dog, the shorter the life span. Since it looks like she is a smaller dog, she has the opportunity to live many more years. I have a lab (like Marley, in the book), she is 7 years old, and black. So all the grey/white hair of old age shows up alot. We cherish all the time we have together. She thinks she is a puppy, too!
